Scott Miller talks about other franchise
This is an article talking about making the Max Payne Franchise successful, but read the Last Paragraph.

"3D Realms is currently working with another developer, with a very similar relationship that we had with Remedy, to create another hit series (or so we hope!). In 2004 this game will be announced and it will make a good case study in the making of a franchise, allowing me to discuss our key decisions prior to the game's release, and eventually seeing if we made the right calls."

I think this just proves that Scott is a savy business man. He's my hero. Take money that one has already made, invest it into other companies, and turn a profit. All of this while still PERSONALLY backing your own company (meaning no stock is held by the public.) Then make cash money off those investments.

Very smart. So far succesful. 3DR is one of just a handful of private gaming companies to last the 1993-present years.

Cheers to Scott and George.

This is not new, you know. This sentence you quoted has been used elsewhere before.

Now WHAT it is has not been disclosed, nor do we intend to. We meant what we said, the next project you'd know even less about than DNF.

As for Devil Master.. Dude, knock it off. You always try and corner me based on your twisting of my words. I know what was said. I know what I said.

Your constant and repeated attempts to discredit me are really annoying after all this time. Give it up.

The point remains. You'll know next to nothing about the next game we develop.

@Devil Master:

I'm not sure, but I think Joe meant that the secret game - which Scott said will be announced in 2004 - will not be revealed right now in this topic.

I understood: it will be announced sometime in 2004, but not now.

Re: Scott Miller talks about other franchise
Well, sounds exciting. I wonder if it's for pc? Perhaps another action game? I suppose we'll have to wait and see. I also want DNF first, though. When they worked on max payne though, supposedly it didn't interfere with the development of DNF according to either Joe or George. I forget which. Who knows what that means (if anything at all) for this new game/franchise.

Infact 3dr had people working on a game like that so it wasn't just "on paper". But they scraped that too

Lon Materos did a search like that about 6 month ago. It's here at the end of this page

3D Realms registered BuyPrey.com on July 23, 2001. It expires in 2008.

Trademarks

Titles of games and names of characters are usually trademarked so no other games can use them. The nice thing about trademarks is, anyone can search for them online. It appears there is at least some interest in the Prey and Talon trademarks from 3D Realms. Some trademarks have been abandoned, such as "Preditor", "Be Brave", and "Talon Brave". However, a mystery name "Tommy Hawk" is live. "Talon" was most recently filed for a trademark on August 7, 2001, and is still listed as live. "Prey" is listed as live and has last been filed on July 2, 2003.

*grins insanely*

I wouldn't be suprised if the next game is what used to be a bunch of old ideas & concepts (...code?) rolled into a cool game.

Whatever it is, I'm gonna be watching it closely

Bah you people wouldn't know a good game if it bit you in the....HEY HEY!

I just bought THUG2 and its great, maybe your just jealous because they can develop faster? While I admit there are too many hawk games...I onyl started at 4 and played both thugs. I agree the previous ones suck moose balls, but the newer games kick ass. Just because it isn't an FPS doesn't mean it isn't a good game.
