We must get more games to GoG!
Now people play classics such as Duke3D, ROTT, Rator and Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, and some Blakestone too.

Lot's of people are in nostalgecstasy! But they are stilll hungry for more! Shadow Warrior should join Duke on GoG at least. And we should get Wackey Wheels there as well. And Terminal Velocity of course. And Realms of Chaos. And Hocus Pocus.

GoG does also have "free" games for "sale" (read: promo), and I think Death Rally, Xenophage, Stargunner and Boppin should be there. Some promo for Apogee/3D Realms wouldn't hurt!

So, what can we do to get these games to www.gog.com as soon as we can?

For the time being, I can't really see any way that we can get those games there... I suppose you could E-mail Bryan Turner about it... Since he still actually is still employed by 3DRealms.

Re: We must get more games to GoG!
I would like to see more Apogee/3D Realms games on GOG, but I think 3D Realms keeps a bigger share of the money from direct sales. But I would prefer a service that allows me to re-download a copy in case something happens (plus digital goodies). It is too bad 3D Realms doesn't sell physical copies of games anymore, I went to my parents' place over the holidays to find out that they accidentally sold pretty much my entire pre-2000 game collection at a garage sale. Boxed copies of Flashback, Shadow Warrior, Relentless, Strife, Realms of Chaos CD, Bio-Menace floppies, and much more all gone. Thank God I had a second disc of Shadow Warrior, that Bio-Menace is now freeware, and that Realms of Chaos was still installed on my computer.

Aww, sorry to hear that, man, the physical media sure are of historical value, not to mention what they meant to you...

Loss of these things will be of significance in the future as the world migrates to digital media. I am buying up every game I can get my hands on for the systems I have, spare systems and repair parts etc, because of this.

I will really miss physical media... I was always unhappy with the migration of Big Box games to Mini-Box games, so the move to pure digital is really disappointing.

I don't think it will be that far off when we are telling kids about how you could walk into the store and buy a game that came in a big cardboard box with a cartridge or a disk, and often a small book with instructions you read etc, and they won't understand.

Another occurrence I am already experiencing is kids that don't understand why you would play ANY game that isn't current. If it is "old" you just don't play it... I guess the evil game marketers are winning.

I'm positive this won't always be the case It's just like with other types of entertainment/works of fiction: there are people who go to the movies and watch whatever's on right now, and those who collect oldies from their favourite time period and will rather watch them over and over again than go see some currently popular schtick. Same with books, theatre and so on. I don't think games are to be any different in this respect.

Interesting enough, I remember that when I was a kid and was just introduced to computer games, I had quite the opposite attitude (the opposite to what modern kids seem to believe), in that I thought that a game is to be played over and over again, and the concept of games ageing rather quickly as they do was completely unfathomable to me back then

I also believe that at some point the demand for vintage hardware to play old (PC) games will have serious enough impact to prompt production of new machines that will be able to natively run old games (I guess those aren't going to be exactly cheap though!).

While I'm very much pro-GOG, I was surprised by how high-quality 3D Realms' packaging of their classic games were when I got them via digital distribution and CD. The DOSbox emulator which they've packaged in the game installation files is also high quality, and kind of rivals GOG's own emulating skills. Of course, if you only bought the game through digitial distribution, you have to remember your purchase key so you can download them again, or else you might lose them (GOG makes it convenient to have all the games you bought available on your account at least).

I do agree that GOG would be a great way to promote 3D Realms' classics again, since they are highly deserving of the title "Good Old Games." However, I wish the BioMenace and Alien Carnage had the same benefit of having good quality DOSbox emulators as the games which are still being sold do. I wish as well that id Software would all of their games like 3D Realms is doing, but each company is different.
