Crysis 3 announced
http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/boa...hreadid=131593
I actually liked Crysis 2 better than Warhead or the first game...not as much "sandbox" freedom of course, but I thought the visuals, combat and overall gameplay were much more satisfying. Plus, the aliens in Crysis 2 looked much cooler. Thoughts?

Re: Crysis 3 announced
Agreed.
Crysis may have been the better tech demo and visual showcase, but Crysis 2 was the better game. And really, that's what is important. Being a good game. And Crysis 2 was a lot of fun. So, I'm actually very interested in this.

Re: Crysis 3 announced
Sadly, I haven't played Warhead yet but I preferred Crysis over the sequel where the hit and run combat got a bit samey towards the end. Nevertheless it was a beautiful, well polished game and yes, the cephs did look cool. Looking forward to this one.

I'm curious to see how this nano dome idea will keep New York City interesting. Those screens do look nice, but I've seen cities and jungles before from the Crysis series, and a combination of both - Enslaved comes to mind.

Re: Crysis 3 announced
IMO, Crysis was better in every single way than its sequel...
Crysis 2 had inferior level design, almost no tactical gameplay, less good physics and graphics and a underwhelming atmosphere and story... I hope that they will return to the old gameplay and they will let us the f*ck know what happened between game 1 and 2 and what happened to Nomad, strickland and psycho...

Re: Crysis 3 announced
Crysis is an interesting game. Based on how people react to it.
Personally, Crysis was a huge disappointment for me, yes a visually stunning and beautiful game. But the gameplay was dull and lifeless, weapons lacked punch and felt inefficient. The suit powers were kind of fun, but the power wore out so quickly they were almost useless in larger fights. For cat and mouse, two to three enemy fights they were fine... but powers like that beg to be used on larger fights. Add in a tired story that does nothing to move itself forward, and only gets worse as the game reaches the middle and then it falls apart. Characters that suffer from the "Gears of War" complex, in which they are cliche' badass soldier boys... but are uninteresting, at times annoying... and I didn't care at all as they were being killed off. Add in level design that starts great. The first few levels can be fun, but at the middle section (alien ship) and on the game is shit. The caves were boring, the alien ship was horribly f**king designed and even more annoying to play. From there you are into a straight linear path, escort mission, on rails vehicle section... god awful flight mission and a terrible final level that ends with a "meh" fight, only to be followed by a pathetic final fight. Crysis is one of the few games I feel as if I wasted 50 bucks on. Pretty yes, but boring and I can't bring myself to replay it at all. I can manage the first level... then I completely lose interest. It was a good tech demo, but it's a mediocre game. Crysis 2 on the other hand, I really liked. The story (while nothing great) flowed better, had better pacing and more interesting characters to move it forward. And felt solid all the way through, I didn't feel as if the story lost pacing or missed a step. The gameplay felt more refined, polished... and as an end result, more enjoyable. The suit powers actually being a useful mechanic here instead of a "cool idea". Upgrading, picking how you play... it works. And finally the cloak function works in the fights. Level design, I actually prefer how it was done in Crysis 2 as well. It's not on rails linear as CoD or Half-Life, but it's more focused. It's the same basic idea as Crysis. A series of levels, you have to get from point A to point D, but you are given some freedom in how you get there. The levels are smaller in relation to the first game, but that's not a negative IMO. It's another instance of the game just feeling more "focused" then the first one. Visually... Crysis 2 is a great looking game. Not the best looking game out there, but still very capable and impressive. Better then Crysis? Well that's completely subjective. Crysis was a stunning looking game because tropical beaches look stunning. Crysis 2 is set in a blown up, run down New York. Take real world photos and yes, the tropical jungle will always look better then a busy city. Doesn't mean Crysis 2 looks worse, it just looks different. And personally, I was glad to see Crytek move away from jungles. Three games set in basically the same location... it was time for a change. After Crysis I had no interest in the future of the series. And wasn't going to get Crysis 2. But, I gifted a game to a friend on STEAM... they gifted me Crysis 2. So, I played it... and I've played it a couple of times. It's a fun "game". Also, Nomad is dead. He gets killed off in the Crysis comic which is considered canon to the story. Psycho is still alive, but didn't go with Prophet to New York.

Re: Crysis 3 announced
The first Crysis lets the suit be your weapon, and your weapon is choise... you can actually decide how to tackle ennemies and bases between objectives...
It had tactic, the suit wasn't simplified shit like in the second game... I don't get why people liked the story of the second game so much more than the first game... The story of Crysis 1 was simple but well brought, and the characters weren't that bad compared tot the second game... Visually, there is no doubt that crysis 1 was far better looking tan crysis 2 (without the high res pack and dx11) the first moment i stood against a wall in Crysis 2 and you get faced with a huge lowres texture 4 years after crysis, was just sad...

Re: Crysis 3 announced
To each his own.
I'm not knocking you liking Crysis... I personally can't get into the game. To me, the suit in the first Crysis feels like a great idea. But one that's not fully thought out and rather prematurely executed. What some people saw as "simplified" in Crysis 2... I saw as actually making it useful and effective. And the fact that you could sort of upgrade it to your personal play style. Story wise, nobodies going to argue the story in Crysis 2 of being a deep, dramatic tale. But, it felt complete and flowed nicely from start to finish. The story in Crysis... started a bit... undirected and didn't really go anywhere. The story was simple, but disjointed and unfocused. With paper thin cliche' characters that have depth or emotional attachment. I didn't care that my team was getting killed off... hell, I'd spent maybe five minutes with them. And, what people claim to be the best character in the game.... it's just Jason Statham. And personally, I like Crysis 2's visual better. Of course will argue to no end that Crysis looks better. But, really, a tropical setting will look better then a destroyed city. Any day. So yeah, Crysis looks "prettier"... but I think Crysis 2 looks better. And the argument of low res textures in Crysis 2 is funny. Seems people are so willing to forget the low res textures that often popped up in Crysis. ![]() As I said, enjoy it. If you like Crysis great. Don't try and defend your opinion to me... as I really don't care. Just to me, it was a disappointment. Lots of potential, just the majority of it felt half thought out. To me.

so it appears that Psycho is your voice on the radio this time around, and that you play as the voiced character Prophet... I like the fact that you have a voice like in the first game...

Why does Crytek have to include Aliens in all of their games?
I loved FarCry before the aliens / hated after. I loved Crysis before the aliens / hated after. I haven't played Warhead. I enjoyed Crysis 2 before the aliens and was ok with the game after.

Re: Crysis 3 announced
FarCry didn't have aliens.
Those were mutated monkeys and humans. Crysis is just a bad game. A good tech demo, but a dull, boring gaming experience. I loved Crysis 2.

Early reviews have said the game is around five hours long.
So... wait and see how the official word is, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Re: Crysis 3 announced
I like the concept and the artwork though, Crytek has very talented people, everything is designed with so much love to detail. They 're good at level designing, not to speak about cutting edge technology... Besides, videos show that there are some "green" levels too, so it shouldn't be only teal/black. Of course about the game length we can't argue... if 5h proves to be true then it's a 10 gold max pickup.

Just been reading a little about performance. 40fps at 1920x1200 using the new Nvidia titan. Apparently performance is a bit better on AMD cards which is a surprise - I thought Nvidia slapped their name all over Crysis?

Good review.
![]() The plot in Crysis was a disaster from the start. Interested to see the second games plot as they had that guy working on the story who's penned a few decent sci-fi novels. Not going to be able to play this one for a while though. It's just too damn demanding.

Re: Crysis 3 announced
Most "PC enthusiasts" think anything under 60 frames is unplayable.
Which is a complete load of balls. The game runs around 40 for me, occasionally into mid 30s... normally above into 50 to 70.

Re: Crysis 3 announced
With how the CryEngine runs, if you don't have the frame rate up on the screen... you can't really tell the difference in frame rate. It's one of the best features of the engine, it runs very smoothly even at low frame rates.

Maybe I've played too many hours in multiplayer shooters then as I think it's noticeable.
I tend to think in Crysis games you are funneled towards playing in a stealthy manner most of the time as if you go all guns blazing your frame rate turns to shit.

Re: Crysis 3 announced
In MP, the higher the framerate, the better because it directly relates to or interferes with the gameworld update from the gameworld server, and it means shaving precious time off of your interaction. The high framerate/low-ping/quick packet exchange thing makes you feel fluid, fast, and frisky.
Now if I could only be L33t like some of those kids out there - I had a great connection, but I was being owned in Crysis 3. |
