That's not the case!! I think its just a real devilish looking enemie and would fit perfect in a moddy, scary shooter experience. Sure, the design is not very spectacular but he just looks very very evil and not to overdesiged!!!

I was very disappointed with the doom3 demons. Hope the Doom4 ones will be better!!

The problem with Doom3's demons were that they could be aliens and nobody would notice. Also: the ability for a zombie/former human to run or not was based on if he was holding a gun or not.

I can't think any other problems with the monsters though.

I consider Quake 1 to have much better universe than Strogg stuff. Maybe it's because it's a lot like DOOM... but still Stroggs are so boring for me.

I captured it from the 7min DOOM 3: The Legacy video. Check it out on YouTube or google, you'll find it. On the subject of DOOM 3 concept art there's some of it that I think was never released or posted in a different way in an Xbox Concept Art section.

(Like 256 megs minimum on the video card requirements.)

Interestingly, I found Quake4's story pretty good

Just so we're clear, Q1 and Q3A didn't have stories, right? Everyone's just giving Q2 shit?

I'd like to see what an updated Shambler looks like. Actually, Q1 had a bunch of pretty cool enemies.

Pretty much.

Quake 1 has a tiny little "story" in the manual, but it's about two paragraphs long and is completely throw away. And Q3A had no story... just a cheap, really cheap, setup for the deathmatch.

Quake 2 and 4 are the only Quake games to actually have a story that progresses as you play.

You mean texture quality? Well, Rage looks great in that department, in my opinion. DOOM will only be better. And most likely PC will get crisper textures, as usual.

Q3A and TA, those were aimed to be multiplayer focused, so you can't really complain about them not having a story. The story in Doom or Doom 2 didn't really advance either.

Yep.

Doom and Doom 2 worked without a strong story though, the mindless gun-slinging fun of mowing down wave after wave of demon... it was awesome.

I want a modern shambler too. None of the fan made ones for mods to various games has been good enough. They just can't capture the look and feel of the shambler.

I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I always imagined the Shambler as furry, kinda cuddly in a way. Like that Yeti thing at the start of Empire Strikes Back.

Ah, it’s been so long since I’ve played Doom. Can anyone remember a boss (think it was just before the final one) that was a wall firing blood, in a huge multi-leveled room, full of lava and dead bodies? I’d like to see more crazy crap like that thrown into the game.

I have never tried seriously on Icon of Sin. I like Tricks and Traps! That level is funny to start without weapons. Just chait to it.

I genuinely canít remember much about the first two, (last and first play through must have been 1995) but that boss was so bizarre and out there itís obviously stuck with me.

Just hope with ID tech 5 they can re-imagine a boss just as out there.

Team update. Hm, I'm not sure how big this change is but id has just switched Mark Bristol (Linkedin profile, Site) from being a Cinematic Art Director to Art Director. His Linkedin description didn't change but I'd assume he's still with DOOM.

We've got a little anniversary. Today, May 7th marks exactly one year since id Software started hiring for the new DOOM. This was also the first official mentioning of the game, not counting the instance during QuakeCon 2007 when John Carmack stated that DOOM 4 is in the future id plans. It's also 279 days since the official announcement on QuakeCon 2008. Looking into the future, it's 25 days until E3 2009 (possible mentioning of DOOM in interviews) and 97 days until QuakeCon 2009 (possible media? Well, at the very least they will talk about it).

Hopefully there is something at e3. At least an interview with some new info.
In the meantime could someone make a list with all the guys which are current working on the game and their role on the project please? Nihilanth you are the right one i think
