To be honest, I'm not really impressed from his portfolio. Maybe because of I don't like the characters he modeled in this portfolio. This Skeletor model is rather my taste

i think doom 3 may have stayed too true to the series for its own good. but its still a great game... i was playing it last night, it still manages to get my adrenaline running.

Doom 3 had nothing to do with the Doom series, but did a lot for it. To begin with, it was a reboot, not a sequel, so the "3" should have been assed. It was completely different gameplay - I was never inundated with monsters, never scared in a horror or shock sense, and could not go balls-out with the guns. Which is what the original two games were all about.

I played Doom 3. I couldn't see anything. I switched to my torch. I couldn't shoot anything. Switched back to my gun. I couldn't see anything. ESC > Menu > Quit.

A month later I got the "Duct Tape" mod, which operates on the principle that somewhere on Mars there is a roll of duct tape and more than one flash light.

It made the game playable, but did not redeem it.

I can't wait for the new version of Hell on Earth. I mean, how can they stuff that up?!?

I agree that the whole "you're either able to see or shoot!" gameplay synergy in Doom 3 felt a tad dumb and out of place for, you know, Doom - But I can't believe people still find "doom 3 is dark!!11" jokes funny. Really? We're pushing 2010. Not that it's invalid as a peeve (or maybe a bad design decision) within Doom 3's gameplay, but these intentional overstatements were dumb back then, people should give them a rest.

the small portions that you only had the choise between shooting and seeing stuff it was used to create tension and slow the player down. though you could see with your gun while shooting cause of the flash from firing the bullets.

well its not like it was that hard to switch back and forth. it was 1 button and he switched hands super fast, you just need to aim at the gguy than switch to your gun. besides that part only happened like 2 times in the whole game....

Except the Doom comic, besides the one liners, is exactly what Doom is. Minus the BFG shooting bullets, the rest is just as brainless as the game is.

I don't know, the tacked-on ecology lesson after DoomGuy falls on the toxic waste also seemed to be missing from the games.

Well, no, since it's something the Comic Doom Guy says so it goes under his one-liners (even though it's kinda long).

Instead in the game he only grunts but if you translate his grunts it comes out to something like that.

All this and more, hopefully it will have better replayablity than DOOM 3. Hope those PDA's make a return, I like reading and hearing audio journals because it just makes the game atmospheric for me.

Plus it's creepy hearing about a guy cutting off his tounge and cutting it more into more peices.

ive played through doom 3 about 4 times. i think the reason i keep playing it is cause the action is spot on as well as the atmosphere.

i wonder what kind of lighting doom 4 is going to have... i bet its going to be epic.

I would have to disagree about the action. Compared to the originals, the action in Doom 3 was pretty dull. In terms of action, Doom should just return to what it's all about. Killing hordes of big monsters in gory and grotesque ways. Remember how memorable some of the death animations of the demons were? Like when the HK or BoH would die their guts would spill out of their abdomen and their bodies would pretty much collapse onto themselves? Or how when a Mancubus died it's head would shatter and it's rib cage would bust through it's skin along with it's shoulder bone. The monsters were just so much more satisfying to kill. Doom 3 just lost that part of Doom that was just totally awesome. Blowing away hordes with massive firepower and having the floor littered with twisted, tattered corpses and gory piles of slop was one of my favorite aspects about Doom. Call me a sadist, but that's what made Doom so awesome in my eyes.

Being able to view the piles of your dead enemies was much more satisfying than shooting one imp and watching him evaporate into nothing like in Doom 3. Doom 4 must recapture that aspect of Doom. Todd specifically said that there would be blood and gibs in Doom 4. I hope by saying that he means that it will be fun and awesome to kill the monsters like it was in Doom rather than boring and unsatisfying like in Doom 3.

The sounds of the weapons also need more power to them, picking up the shotgun and shooting it for the first time in DOOM 3 made me laugh.

It's been that way for a while.

The current theory is that several posts were deleted and the forum software didn't recalculate how many posts there are in the thread, so the page count is off as a result.
