I'm back to the world of the living, from the two days of recovering after my birthday, with a new chopper



I'm about to relase first version of PTCR but first we need a first mission remake. What about it, Telee?

Wow, really nice! I have to install PlatoonTC again.
It was a really nice Mod.

The M16 doesn't look like a Nam M16.


The skins of the view models (of the weapons) could need more work,
and some of the models too. But they are not bad!

The star on the HUEY should be on the side of the front doors,
that will make it look much better, I think.

I will take a look if I can do some stuff too.

During I had no net, I spend some time on recreation of first mission. First quest was making an US camp. I tried to keep that in original platoon's feel, but with some better architecture and shading. Keep in mind it's WIP.

OK, I've got matura exam on May, it's the hardest exam in life and when everybody says "You should learn, or you'll have a problems", I'm finding time for this and especially for "Szczerbiec" game. So "final exams" are not such important to break promises IMHO. I bet that you're just lazy bastard.

Um, "Lazy Bastard"? I admit that I missed the deadline of the promise I gave you, but I have been working on it, just not as much since I have both homework (several projects), and studying. I apoligize for breaking my promise, I would like to send you the stuff tomorrow but I'm sure you won't believe me and you'll just yell at me even more.

I'm not yelling, I just don't like to work with people who have a "thousands other things to do". I don't believe. I bet that you were playing games, if even it's a hour per day, it should be sacrified for given promise. It's just my opinion, so don't care too much about it. But I have too big experience about working with people via net and I know something about young people's nature.

Hey man, calm down a bit. He volunteered his efforts, that doesn't mean you're his boss. I understand the frustration with people who don't keep their promises, and Telee is in the wrong there. But from his nature im sure he really does have something to show for the time.

Telee, don't take his posts so personally. He need some help on this, hes done a HELL of a lot of work and hes not asking for much.

I won't promise anything, but after a first release I may try to do some basic mapping to help speed things up on creating an entire episode for this remake, need to flex the mapping muscles.

Looks really good so far though hellbound...

Are those GIs in those pictures just decoration or do the do anything?

I'm not angry at Hellbound, I just feel guilty about all of it, and yes, I do have something to show for the time. Only problem is, I probably wasted all of it for nothing now.

There's not really much I can do other than apologize. I would like to post a screenshot but I'm afraid that Hellbound will think it's bad, and I'll be hated even more. And yes, Hellbound I care about your opinion and I don't blame you for being mad.

Well, I'm very calm all the time I just want you people to know that there were 2 Duke TC projects I was working, I put a lot of effort there and the second one would be the most advanced game on build engine, but it will never be finished because of my fellow who were the team leader and he just "gave the ass" (that's how we are calling "giving up" in Poland). I think that I'll show some results of our work on this month, maybe I'll find some people to help.

And I don't feel like "boss"! I hate to be "The Boss".

Cool, I didn't want to offence you and it's nice you think this way. Show me your work! If it's better than mine, I will use it for 100%. And you'll not be hated, you are not now too.

I just wish I had a time machine I could send you what I have right now, but I'm sort of a perfectionist

One of the problems that makes the map really ugly is shrubbery, trees etc. I'm constantly using the same textures and it makes it look pretty dull. Any way you can make a couple new ones? (I know you're already working hard enough, so I'm okay with a no )

I'll add a couple more rocks and stuff, then pm you some pics.

I completely understand Hellbound. I really hate when I put all my effort in some project, but at the same time I depend on somebody else who just doesn't give a damn. Thank God Parkar is not one of those. I'm really looking forward in finishing our project (sorry for being a little offtopic)

I'm making a small trail through across a river, then a big battlefield (similiar to E1L1)

Should I just cut out on the battlefield and make a base instead, since that was the battlefield was the whole problem with E1L1?

The most used US-Army truck was the M35A1, I think.
But the actual truck model looks good!
If you want to model/use a US-Army jeep, make a M151A1.
The helmet of the (US-Army) recruits should be remodelled, so it will look more like a M1 helmet.

Do someone here know NAM (a.k.a. Napalm), it was made by the PlatoonTC-Team:

Yeah, I know NAM, but from the creative point of view, that game is shit. It's very annoying that all characters are just a redone duke sprite. 80% of textures are from DN3d and weapons are the same but with diffrent gfx. If it was a TC, I would say it's cool, but as for a game relased as a 'game', it's crap IMO.

The thing that I liked about NAM was the level design. It was pretty cool apart from the indoor areas (crap). I sorta like the redone Duke sprites, though. But yes, I have to agree that it's nothing but a mod, if you look in the .grp file you'll find almost all of the Duke3D textures (including a slimer egg )

WWII GI is the same way, although there are more custom textures.

In my experience, you don't need many different textures to make a good-looking jungle; you need to make them different sizes. You could have a thousand different bushes available, but if they're all the same size, your jungle will look boring and fake.

Looks great Though I'd change that standard HRP grass texture asap. It doesn't look like real grass, it's like a plastic floor with a grass texture printed on it. And waaaay too hi-res for my taste (doesn't work well with your models).

Hey, it's not a texture from hrp! It's my own and it looks good in game IMO. We'll see after relase. And why it's too highres? You mean grass? How it's not working well with models?

And that's it for now. There are some additional models to do like chairs to brief room and I am going to code the weapon collecting system in base that you will have to go to armory and get weapons from some officer (and there will be choice as in original PTC)

That's cool, too tell the truth I could use the extra time I never realized how bad I was at outdoor maps, so I'm currently making an arctic map in an effort to improve my skills.

Why not do it in stages? Make a HRP and release that first. Then, do the coding and mapping and release Platoon 2.

Well, I'm doing exactly that way! I'm just making a remake of first map because the old one wasn't working well with models (10 fps almost all the time on my machine).

I'm about to relase the stuff I done, but I won't until I get any response on tree's transparency problem. I posted that in EDuke32 thread and didn't recieve anything yet. Right after solving that issue, you all will get a fresh Platoon TC remake first relase

If it makes you feel any better, Hellbound, lots of retail games have the same transparency problems, such as GTA: Vice City.
