RIP Basil Poledouris
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basil_Poledouris
He wrote the greatest movie soundtrack ever, Conan the Barbarian. Without that music, that movie would have been a worthless piece of 80's cheese instead of a masterpiece. The music DEFINES that movie. The lack of dialogue and use of the music makes Conan the Barbarian so epic. |

Some of his work was a bit cheesy B-grade stuff (Under Siege 2, Starship Troopers), but so were the movies so it fits.
I liked the music to Breakdown. Kind of haunting.

Re: RIP Basil Poledouris
Exactly. The worst thing they could have done with Conan was get some pretty-boy beach bum to play him. (like Marc Singer in Beastmaster)

Re: RIP Basil Poledouris
^ Heh, i actually met and shook Marc Singer's hand at a comic convention i went to with a friend. The cool part is that i never even seen the Beastmaster and had know idea who he was, i was just following my friend's lead. ;D
Next to him was Lou Ferrigno but we decided not to venture that way, lest we needed out limbs sometime in the near future. As for Conan, Arnold was alright, but they pretty much ****ed the entire premise of the character by turning him into a slave. |

Re: RIP Basil Poledouris
Movie contents aside, the scores he composed for the movies are quite memorable. He'll be missed. I guess he'll be hanging out with Mihael Kamen up there.
