As a parent do I have any parental control of this because if I don't want my son listening to Eminem for instance and his friends all have Zunes and they all listen to Eminem, they could keep passing Eminem without my permission, right?

Okay, so I can lock my son's Zune down so he can't get Eminem songs from his friends.

For anyone who decides to download the zune software.

Use Internet Exploiter to download it.
I used Firefox and Seamonkey (mozilla) and the zune site couldn't detect my OS.

Been playing with the software a bit,its not bad.

Considering it was just launched and i mostly listen to metal,.
I was surprised at the selection of artists to choose from.

Although you have to search a bit for it.
Better artist in the genre isn't in your face up front,to just simply click on it..

Didnt buy anything,just browsed.

You have to buy points from microsoft, like you do with the xbox/360.
Then you use the points to buy music.

It comes out to like .99 per song.
There is supposed to be a $15 a month subscription option also

Noes.

Well, that sure did change my opinion. (I was never a fan of monthly subscriptions...One of the reasons I didn't get into WoW, even though I had it installed and ready to go for a month. Sometimes I feel that I won't want to use it to it's extent during some months and the 15 dollars a month might be wasted on it sitting on the shelf. )

I don't know about the Zune, but you can put your own .mp3 collection on an iPod.

Also the iPod has several generations full of refinement behind it, at this point Apple has the "portable music player" thing down to a science.

I really doubt the Zune is going to destroy the iPod, most likely it's going to make a small market splash just like the Creative Zen.. and maybe crash occasionally.

Zune Sales Report

I was looking at the sandisk Sansa e250,which is affordable.
Seems a better deal than a ipod shuffle if you shop around.

There is a 8 gig version of the Sansa.
But for the price you may as well spend the extra 50 for a 30gig zune or ipod.

Solid state should equal long battery life.

I got a black one today.
Overall the hardware seems quality.
I didnt even bother with the ear buds though,i use a pair of sennheiser px200's.

However after playing with the zune software for an hour.
It seems a bit flaky and defiantly needs refined.

Unless you absolutely need a new player,id wait till a 1.5 or 2.0 version of the software.

They need to advertise.
I swear i see a apple commercial ever day.

The ipod also had a long head start.
When zune makes it to 2nd gen, they will have a modest share of the market.(I wager 15-20%)

If you read the first review link.

The casing does feels good in your hands.
IMO its not rubbery like the reviewer suggested, its more like lightly textured nylon.

I got a black one. I agree with the above post that the program for the zune feels a bit flaky. It needs some more fine tuning.

Aside from that, its a nice little piece of hardware.

Ram,flash,sd,compact flash,XD cards are solid state.
Which take minimal power to read from.
No moving parts.

Re: Zune Review
Why bother with any of those MP3 players with their intrusive software.

The iAudio X5L from Cowon (or JetAudio) is the best MP3 out there. It acts like a USB flashdrive, so you can just drag and drop music without having to dick around with POS software. It's battery life is 40 hours (I've gone an entire month without recharging it). It plays all types of media, including lossless .flacs. It's sound quality is as good or better than the iPod's. That sucker is probably the best purchase I've made all year.
