You can with the newest version of acrobat reader, if the pdf file is made so you can fill in text. http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

I tried looking. But the closest I could find was a program for creating forms and filling them in. A lot of the other stuff was very expensive.

I thought the whole point of PDF files was that they were read-only?

That can be set in Adobe Acrobat, you can set the document to be read-only or not. Or only certain fields. It is very usefull when you can fill fields in Acrobat Reader, so I don't think it was never the intention to make everything read-only.

With stuff like that they usually want you to print it out, fill it in, and snail mail it.

I was under the impression that Adobe Acrobat could?

It depends on the PDF, some PDFs have the form fill fields integrated, others do not. If you want to add the fields, then you need a copy of Adobe Acrobat Standard, and add the fields yourself.

Of course, the other alternative is this:

Yeah. I made a PDF form once and I could fill it in inside Adobe Reader then email the data, HTTP post the data or print it out. There are various possibilities, but you can't fill it in and then save as a PDF unless you've got the complete Acrobat. You can however, print to Postscript and then turn that into a PDF (perhaps using Ghostscript if you're cheap), but that kills the edit-ability of the forms.

PDF forms are baloney anyway. Just print it out, scribble the answers and then post it back, I say. Especially if it's for a tech job application.

Adobe is too expensive. It`s will cost me about 400$... There are a lot of different solutions like cutepdf, verypdf etc. Have anyone tried that staff?

The job maybe taken by the time you decide if you're going to buy all that expensive stuff. Printing it off and filling it in looks to be a faster option for you at this point in time

No, but I somehow get the feeling you're going to tell us about a solution to use and purchase

Ah, I just found out that the free version of Foxit reader can add form fields, text annotations and such. Only catch is if you save the PDF, it will add a watermark.

That should be good enough to add text to the application form, and then print.
