Making Static Meshes?
What programs do I need to use to create static meshes and are there any good tutorials for creating and importing them? I've been messing with UT2k3 for a while and know the editor, and now I want to make my own meshes so I can make some maps that are REALLY my own.
[edit]PS, I'd prefer a free program for making the static meshes.[/edit]

Information on usable programs, and a guide to importing them can all be found on sites like www.leveldesigner.com, UnrealWiki or UDN. They are very plentifull - just rummage around those or Google it.

Also, as for software, well I think MilkShape MIGHT allow you to make StaticMeshes, but I can't be sure. Ultimately, MayaPLE is on your UT2k3 CD... so if you are willing to learn that you'd be set.

I thought I heard that MayaPLE has a large watermark or some ****. Have you used it before? Is the watermark just on your viewscreens or actually on yourwork. I'd be mighty pissed if I made a static mesh and it ended up saying "MADE IN MAYA PLE" on it.

The newest version of MayaPLE has only a watermark in the shaded/textured 3D view. Not in 3D wireframe or the 2D views. Nor does have any watermark on exported static meshes. I recommend it.

I think it puts watermarks if you render something with it. so I think that means you can't make lightmaps for meshes in MayaPLE, but you can probably do without those.
