Here is a very good tut on how to model a shotgun in Blender. It uses a lot of the new poly modeling features as well.

Question Re: Tutorials and resources thread (Bullet point #1?)

So the basic idea of this thread is to post tutorial and resource links or your own tutorials and resources. If you have posted things like sdk's or tutorials in other threads please repost them here so they can be easily found. Also make sure what you post is not already posted to avoid having the same stuff posted multiple times.

Lets keep discussions out of this thread so the purpose of this thread does not drown in them. Just make a new thread if you want to discuss something posted here with a proper subject line. Not sure if it would be better to make a discussion thread for discussing things posted here or just make a new thread for each discussion.

A short list of things that would fit into this thread
  • Tutorials on modeling, texturing, writing def code or anything else related to the sourcecode ports.
  • Links to usefull software
  • md3, md2 Plugins
  • Links to texturesites
  • Any model or texture source files that could be usefull for others like textures that is used as parts of other textures etc.
  • Anything else that could be a usefull resource.

Edit: I think we should keep non related stuff split up in different posts and make the subject of each post contain the category of the stuff posted to make the thread easier to search incase it grows big. So if your post contains tutorials make the subject start with Tutorials and if it contains plugins make the subject start with Plugins.

I sugest using these categories, Make sure you spell them exactly the same.
  • Tutorials
  • Tools
  • Plugins
  • SDK
  • Textures
  • Other

SDK would be any source files or highres versions of textures and/or models. Textures would be generic textures taht can be used while making textures/skins.

P.S, I will be posting a pretty big post with the usual stuff so wait for me to post that before posting stuff or we are likely going to end up posting the same stuff twice or more.
Please forgive me if there is a texturing tutorial someplace that I am not aware of. I am looking for some help as I am new and want to learn. I would like to know if someone has posted a beginner's guide with basic info like the acceptable image formats, how to import art into HRP, and how to create animation sequences. I have searched the forum and also browsed the HRP wiki, which has nothing in the texture tutorial section. Your help is appreciated.

Re: Tutorials and resources thread
There are loads of texturing tuts on the web. Just Google "rust photoshop tutorial" or similar. We would need a separate forum just for texturing tut links. Tbere is actually a tut listed on creating textures further up the thread.

This a good texture creation. tutorial. Gives a good idea and basis on how to create a decent texture from photo resource - the bump/spec map section could also be useful for those working other engines: http://www.methodonline.com/texture_tutorial.htm

Thanks for these references, they will definately come in handy.

Another questions... it isn't clear in the tutorials, but is the image format 24 bit png with alpha transparency? And the dimensions can be either 256x256px or 512x512px?

Some great tutorials showing all stages of modeling and texturing. HE uses MAX, photoshop and a few other apps but most if it is not app specific. His modeling technique is very similar to mine except he is a bit better .

This is the location of the 'alternate' MD3 exporter script. This one supports tags, AND the last time I tested it, the importer worked. There is a tutorial on how to use it and a link to the exporter at the top of the page. http://cube.wikispaces.com/MD3+Expor...ender+Tutorial

I'm going to use this tutorial to learn how to make models. I really want to start making things for the HRP.

Does anyone know of any plugins i can use for Blender that will let my import .MD3 files? I want to check on how the models inside the HRP look.

Hiho!

Maybe I'm not the only one who's a real noob with this modelling-stuff... I want to use some models in my map, but I have to know the frame-name(s) of that thingy.. well it hasn't animations, it's a couch . How can I see those frame-names? I tried some quake3-model-viewers but they wont show me what I want, and the quake3modelviewer doesn't work under Vista x64. Is there any viewer or something for this?

Thanks!

Check out the post directly above yours.

If you check out the rest of the thread, there are links to tutorials and plugins and texture resources.

It would be great if you could make some stuff for the HRP. The rest of us are suffering from an overabundance of Real Life at the moment.

I will take a serious try in modelling sometimes this summer when i am out of school. It would be nice to become a modeller at the age of 12.

And i know that as a 12 year old i will have a LOT of time on my hands so i won't have an "overbundance of Real Life" as you call it.

This is something i stumbled accross a while ago, and couldn't find it again, i recently put my old computer back together, and here it is:
http://freewebs.com/hctreason/fileview.tar.gz
What it is is FileView, sadly it was abandoned, what it does is open these filetypes:
.GRP .RFF .CMP .WAD .PAK .CK1 .CK2 .CK3 .CK4 .CK5 .CK6 - in fact it opens most game files, i wasnt going to share it with anybody, but here it is.
IT HAS TO BE EXTRACTED TO C:\Program Files\FileView\ - Read the Readme for the reasons and stuff
Unfortunately i can't find the original site

Also, i don't know about it's functionality in Windows Vista or Windows Seven - but it does work in XP and i'm sure i ran it in 98 once (seeing as most of my machines are 1997 or earlier and i've only been on XP for a couple of years).
