Source code
Hey, Joe. A lot of people ask about the ROTT source and stuff, but I was wondering what source you actually can release, and if you will.

somebody else at apogee/3dr lost it!)

Re: Source code
I don't think he was wondering if they'll releaes the ROTT Source. He was wondering what Source Code could be released if they wanted to.

Re: Source code
heh, I don't know how you can either, unless the disks became funked up so you couldn't read them or someone thought "Oh, we don't need this anymore <erase> "

Re: Source code
Actually, I've upgraded my computer so much since I wrote some of my older games that I have no clue as to what happened to the source code.

I was trying to find the source to my old Tic-Tac-Toe game. If I have it at all, it's on this old tape backup made on a tape drive that's no longer installed. THAT's how you can loose source code.

(Actually, now I can't find the tape either).

Re: Source code
Release of source code is up to management here. Not me. Most of the stuff is buried in old disks (in the case of Duke Nukem II, it's on an Amiga).

Don't count on it happening - management here doesn't care about that kind of thing.

The Doom source had to be reworked to remove the sound engine, since they couldn't legally release that. We'd probably have to do the same kinds of things here, and quite frankly, the time spent going through it and preparing it for release is not worth the effort, generally.

Suddenly I am wondering why ID couldn't release the sound engine code.

Re: Source code
I think because they licensed it from someone. I'm not 100% sure about that though

Re: Source code
It was just the sound code they used for the DOS version. That's why they released the Linux port.
