SWP crashes and broken saved games
I've been playing Shadow Warrior lately, using SWP latest version, running on Vista 64. It happens to me all the time that the game crashes, and when loading the last saved games I was playing before the crash, they would not load.

I have to "play it save" and play with 3 different save games at the same time, just in case one crashes, the other two might not get broken (they work as a back-up of sorts). The thing is sometimes this helps, sometimes it doesn't.

I said enough is enough when all three saved games wouldn't load and I had to load a fourth saved game from the previous level. That's not funny.

I believe ProAsm isn't working on SWP anymore, right? , I'm not too sure about that, but anyway I understand if he's not around, so I want to know if any of you have gone throught this very situation and/or know a solution for this problem? Thank you all, before hand.

Re: SWP crashes and broken saved games
Hi, you quite right, I am no longer doing anymore developement on SWP but the best you can do is go look at the posts on our forum and see if you can find what's causing your problem.

I do seem to remember Vista and 64 bit was a problem and whether we ever solved it I cannot remember.
It works fine of Windows7 so its quite possible that we just gave up on Vista as it also gave us several sound problems.

Re: SWP crashes and broken saved games
I may have found a workaround for this annoying problem.
Revert back to an older version of SWP - Version 4.2.6 - Revision 331.128
Contrary to any later version, this one gives no instability and savegame corruption so far.

Re: SWP crashes and broken saved games
Any saved games after version 4.2.7 is no longer backwards compatible as there are now separate saved games for each map or game (addon) played.
Basically you can now have 1000's of saved games and are all divided and set to each map/addon.
It is therefore to your advantage to delete all saved games and use the latest version of 4.3.2

427 - Fixed missed autosaved games
429 - Added save game for each .grp addon
430 - Added saved games for each user map
430 - Modified and forced autosave at runlevel
432 - Fixed loading saved game name in log
432 - Saved game now saves current track and not redbook[level]

Re: SWP crashes and broken saved games
Thanks for the info, but what is the relation with the regular crashes, that me and the topic starter are talking about?

I am not complaining, as I am content with your 'almost latest' version. Just wondering.

PS. Selecting version 426 was also affected by the fact that the remote car screen in level 1 of the shareware maps is not working in versions 427/428.
IIRC versions 430/431/432 have the instability as described in the first post. I failed to source any version 429.

Re: SWP crashes and broken saved games
Sorry for the delay.
429 was never released.
If you are talking about the Yellow car screen, try selecting the Red car and you will drive the yellow car with the key.
This was a bug in the original code which took a long time to 'fix' which I think we never really fixed properly.
SWP was never tested or made to work on Vista/Win7 64 bit so if that is your OS then there are no guarantees what could happen

Re: SWP crashes and broken saved games
Good to know, thanks.
For all my observations: OS=Windows XP SP3 (32-bit)
