I'd be a bit dissapointed if an awesome scenery like a casino didn't flinch under a hail of bullets. Is it technically feasable to have a healthy amount of objects flying about? Craps tables shredded from machine gun fire, cards flying all over, slot machines dripping their coins out of their guts after the dust has settled, etc. Or pus and blood oozing out of alien walls when shot. A shooters is extra fun when it's organic and kinetic (instead of feeling you're canned in a metal box the developers give you with no elbow room or a feeling of being in a lived-in world).

Or is this just not doable with today's games yet?
Yeah good question, that's what I'd expect from Duke Nukem Forever. To take environmental destructability, interactivity to the next level.

The best answer I can give you is to check out the meqon demos. I'm not sure exactly how those things work or how they're set up.

More to games than graphics. And 3DR are focusing on what they need to be, polish, gameplay and feel.

As Jason said it feels like Duke... and that's the most important thing.

I think in the options menu, you can just turn off the models and it should go back to using sprites.

With the 2001 trailer being topped, that is a hard one to beat. I'm sure 3DRealms will still do a good job with a new trailer though.

Answer... yes. You just have to change it from 32bpp to 8bpp in the video options.

I don't think there would be a Glop Gun. First of all it's kinda cheezy, second, it's unnecessary to have two guns that do basically the same thing.

Also, if we weren't seeing the shrink ray, then why did the gun shrink the enemy? It makes no sense if it was the glop gun.

Lastly, I think the shrink ray is one of the better looking guns (not as good as the devastator, but miles better than the ripper) in that clip. It's even got just the right amount of green in it to resemble the DN3D shrink ray.

2 Question I didn't see answered here:

Where is the ammo count numbers for the guns?

What if the action Grab is for interactivity?

Yeah it's the shrinker, Jace says "Do you have a shrinkray up and running?" and
then you see footage of the green gun, so green = shrinkray.

What exactly do you mean with that?

I think it's fearly certain that grab will grab things like a sandwich for example, or a coke, some things that are just small enough to grab... You know. But I could also imagine, that there will be interactivity where you just use your mouse to do stuff. Like the doom 3 computerpads. Such interactivity can also be seen in the 2001 trailer and I doubt they ditched it because it's a very natural kind of interaction. So using a computer, a phone, a microwave, etc... could very well be done without using any buttons whatsoever.

Its the DNMP version of a shrink ray, only it changes target monster into its non-mutated form. (IE : Lizard = Crocodile...etc).

In my opinion this idea with Ego is very good, but i think it would be just only some kind of food which Duke can buy or some of water stream to drink (like in Duke3D) - interaction which can help Mr. Duke keep alive.

I have a quote from like...two years ago about what video cards they're running it on but I don't think it's very valid anymore:

I agree the 2001 trailer is pretty darn good. But, what exactly made it good. I'd like to see 1-3 bullet-points from anyone who wants to participant in this little focus group.

Then, I'll reveal the inspiration for this trailer, which we give a lot of credit to for it's pacing and overall coolness.

For me it was -

*The music
*The pacing/editing
*The 'holy shit' moments

It felt like a movie trailer. By the end you basically said "I NEED THIS GAME". Very few game trailers ever come close to such a thing. Bionic Commando's trailer did the same for me, but only because I'm such a fan of the original. You almost don't even need to be a Duke fan to be pumped by the 2001 trailer.

Cool, I'll participate. Here's my three points:

1
Footage from the old Duke Nukem games set up the mood as I remembered every scene and immediatly got this duke vibe.

2
The music and sound effects were timed to perfection. Some really nice transitions gave and still give me goosebumps (e.g.:"Hey pal, what do you gonna do? Save the world all by yourself? -> Perfect answer: *music pumps in and duke slides under a truck* DANG! AWESOME!)

3
The mature content (gore & girls). Seriously, seeing some pipebomb and tripmine action is just - veeery satisfying

Number three was a hard descision because there is other very cool stuff in this trailer but if it boils down to three points, those are mine =)

Here is why I think the 2001 trailer is so good.

1. The music is great, not only that, but it fits with the visuals extremely well. Its great duke music for the first half of the trailer, then it gets a bit sad as that girl is begging for help and it makes you feel like the situation is dire, then after that the music gets upbeat as the action starts on screen and Duke starts kicking ass.

2. The direction is great, as started above it fits well with the music, but it also shows a lot of great things, such as the majestic shot of Vegas near the start, vehicles, interaction, then the pace quickens near the end and you see a lot of cool stuff in a few seconds such as shrinker, the terminator and duke pulling the arm off the insect.

3. The very cheesy one liner "what are you gonna do, save the world all by yourself?" I just love it, then thats when you see duke doing exactly that.

For a quick summary the trailer shows an epic game with some humour but also a serious side to the story, lots of action and cool things happening.

Also, the guy coughing up blood on the floor is a cool touch wich I never ever noticed untill last year.

The Music in the 2001 trailer was the most good one in it. And fast clips and the interativity.

2 - The music

3 - The editing (Perfect pace, a beautiful "crescendo")

P.s.: That traffic scene can be from the same place in game that that traffic scene in 1998?

I would have to say TaloS nailed it. Every time I watch the 2001 trailer the opening bits, flashbacks through previous Duke games.... the incredibly smooth transitions... it all fits together so perfectly.

Showing the terror of the regular people in the casinos, the wide shoots of Vegas... it all fit so great.

I gotta agree with everyone else.
1. Music
2. For me it was the footage of the older Duke games, Proton escapes, etc than Bam, heres the new crisis. They have the president and you can't trust anyone. Save the world by yourself bit.
3. The footage showed an amazing level of interactivity. What people complained about in the new footage is that it looked like a generic FPS. In the 2001 trailer it looked exactly the opposite, Amazing interactivity. You can catch aliens when they jump at your face, grab food for health from a vending machine, ride your motorbike AND slide under a truck with it, Use a speed boat with huge guns on it. Etc Just so many things you could do that it was impossible not to be impressed.

The old trailer was great because it summed Duke up, Perfectly. Babes, explosions, saving the world, epic music, and interactivity. Oh and great locations too. The environments were interesting.
