I wish it would get ported over to XBLA and PSN and PC

I used to love it. I can't stand the overly low FPS and no midgame saves though.

Re: who here loved duke nukem zero hour?
The weapons, aliens and some of the settings were nice, but the levels were bland and the puzzles made me want to jump off a cliff. The game also looked crap unless you had an expansion pack to run highres, but that makes the game take a big performance hit.

Another issue was that the game would often glitch, leaving you stuck until you restarted the map (or in severe cases, the game). One example is one of the "trap rooms" in Dry Town. If you walked in the room, it would spawn pigs or lizmen and wouldn't let you out until you killed them. However, the game logic sometimes breaks and the door out of the room never opens again.

Another set of bugs involves touchplate sectors (Zero Hour uses the Build engine) where infrequently the entire game would lock up with an exception and make you have to reboot the console.

I think it would be cool if it was backported to the PC version of Duke and have the bugs fixed, and vastly more detailed maps, textures and models.

Duke Nukem: Zero Hour is one of my favorite third-party Duke games (the other is Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project). I played it on PC, with midgame saves, mouse aiming and glorious stereoscopic 3D, thanks to the N64 emulator called 1964!

Never played it to be honest... I plan on beating every Duke game before I die which really shouldn't be to hard.

Duke Nukem: Zero Hour in my opinion is the best third party Duke game. It was very well put together and it had 4 player Splitscreen action as well.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Duke games on Playstation but the controls in those games got very annoying. Zero Hour corrected those problems. I hated side strafing in Time To Kill because Duke pretty much would walk instead of run. Jumping was sometimes irritating too. Zero Hour had awesome voice acting and visually looked great for its time. It was a pretty lengthy game as well. Sometimes the difficulty got brutal but in the end I love the challenge.

I remember buying this game back in 2007 off of eBay for like 12 bucks mint in the box. The previous owner even kept the shrink wrap on the box Duke 3D of course is the best Duke game. After that I would say Zero Hour is second best and Manhattan Project is 3rd best.

I don't think that Zero Hour uses the build engine, i don't think its ever been announced what engine Zero Hour uses.

Nope, it does not use the build engine.
I think Gigabite must be thinking of some different game or some shit.

Yeah - even I assumed that. Although, I can see how people can mistake it. It didn't support Room over room, switches and most textures looked exactly the same as the PC version... except for the fact that it allowed 3D models and small lighting.

I'm fairly certain it uses a modified version of the build engine. I don't know why everyone assumes it's not because it uses models. Look at the modern duke ports and the HRP, it's not hard to add model support.

Ugly default brown texture used in the D3D Build engine:

Fake teleport to connect two areas (like on E1L1 of D3D when you fall down the air duct):

DNZH also uses flat oriented sprites to make elevated areas like catwalks, again like in the BUILD engine. Also if you enable debug mode and cycle through the SFX list, you can hear some sounds from the alien queen drones in D3D.

If it wasn't the Build engine or based on it, why would all of the D3D stuff be in the game if it's never used?

I'm on the 3rd level right now.
I'm finding it fun, but the performance of the game is a bit crap at times. The SMG and Sawed Off Shotgun are extremely satisfying. :P

DNZH plays better with a real N64 controller, but performs way better on an emulator since the R4300i and RCP can be emulated faster than their real counterparts. You also don't run into the snag of DNZH not being able to map the extra RAM from the expansion pak when using a gameshark, and being forced to run in low res mode.

Played Zero Hour back in the day its the only other good duke game, 4 player deathmatch was pretty good you could even be a pig cop and the shotgun was badass as well.

---------- Post added at 03:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:51 PM ----------

Land of the babes was a horrible nightmare.

WHAT??? Are you kidding me? I'm using the mouse and it's AWESOME!!!

Quality control... All we need now is like a Hi-res texture pack for Zero Hour like they do for Zelda. That would kick-arse!!!

Picked it up for $7 for my N64 collection a few months back, and I'm really enjoying it. Didn't the theme song get used in one of the leaked DNF videos?
