Does Zune Support DVR-MS format?
I'm sort of curious about this... I know that the Zune is Microsoft's answer to the iPod and all, and that it handles all the Media Player formats. However, I'm wondering if the Zune can actually play TV recordings at all... This was one of the points that I was interested in this unit. If not, then are there any players that will support DVR-MS/TV recordings that I can watch them on the road with me at all without converting anything first?

You should try to google that first, before asking. Since the answer is really easy to obtain.
DVR-MS is MPEG-2 + MPEG-1 Layer II/AC-3 packed. With addition of copyright protection.

Single example of google results, there are numerous others too:

IIRC, I believe they say that Zune does use WMV as well... However, I'm wondering if Movie Maker would do with this. I mean, I know that it does convert DVR-MS to WMV, but wonder if Microsoft does have a conversion format built right for Zune, or if that's to come in SP1.

DVR-MS is a variant of MPEG2 (i.e. DVD). Unless Zune supports MPEG2, I think you still need to do the conversion.

BTW, you can convert MS-DVR to MPG with AutoDVRConvert

Now that I see it, the 2nd gen 80GB seems to say that it does support conversion of DVR-MS right out of the box. Anything that can play in WMP can be converted and synced automatically into Zune. Don't think that the 1st gen 30GB would have that feature. Might be sort of interesting... I don't think that Zune can convert HDTV recordings, tho... Might be confined to SD recordings, I'll have to verify that.

Well, it is a little more feature rich than the iPod, from how I take it. Might or might not be true...

With the new firmware supposedly it's a pretty nice little media player and just by reading the web it seems quite a few people have them.

The Zune is a great player; I love mine.

The new Zune software and firmware put it FAR ahead of the iPod, imo. A few friends of mine got theirs durring one of the Woot.com deals--all of them have said they would've paid full-retail if they knew it was as good as it is.

This is just with the 1st-gen Zune (loaded with the new firmware), too.

My uncle bought me a Zune for Christmas. My only complaint is that I don't have a spare copy of Windows to upload new content to it so I have to plug it up to my work machine or my uncle's laptop to put new stuff on it. (Maybe I should format it for Linux?) Other than that, no complaints.
