Duke Nukem II Windows Port(s)?
Despite its age Duke2 is still one of my faves. Was there ever an actually windows port for it or do I still have to use DosBox?

I've never heard any such rumour.

Nor are there any plans to do that. I doubt we even have the source code anymore to release for someone to port.

The Duke Nukem II source code is on an Amige disk so it would probably take a lot of time to copy it to a PC.

I was the one that made that remark about it being on an Amiga disk. Allen Blum has the alledged disk in question buried in his closet somewhere. That's also assuming the disk in question is still readable after all these years.

That's what I meant by "doubt we have it". If it's where I think it is, the heat alone might have hosed the disc.

Ok. I take it as, "No, and probably never" ;p. If there ever was one i wonder if it could go as far as high-res textures and models etc (almost like DNMP). I think that'd be cool.

If you want it to be like DN:MP, just buy and play DN:MP. Failing that.. why are you complaining about having to use DOSbox? It runs it great!

1) I dont have DN:MP, ive played the demo, i dont want dnmp, cuz i thought it was the stupidest of all duke games (yes, i thought dn1 was better)
2)Im not complaining, cuz it does run great in doxbox, but i think it'd be cool to have models and stuff in dn2

Re: Duke Nukem II Windows Port(s)?
I'm gonna have to agree with TerminX here...

It seems strange to me, I loved DukeII and DNMP seemed like the perfect follow-up for it. Weird.

However, the DukeII source code would be cool, though I doubt we'll ever see it. My sugestions for 3DR are to hunt down the Source code, and keep it under lock and key. For references and the like, then, IF Joe were to release the code, he could. If they need 6 copies of StarGunner, then I don't see why not! (Yes, StarGunner was a full game, and this is just source, I think they should get a copy)

Just my thoughts

Shadow Warrior source code first, my friend. First SW, then the 'possible' DNII source code.

Yup, and don't forget, Joe is licenced to release the Kingdom of Kroz source code, although obviously you can't just release it as it is.

No.

No.

And finally, NO.

That's property of Apogge/3dRealms, and they will NOT allow you to just rip out the source code. It is their game, and it's their choice what to do with it.

Legally, id Software (or someone they license to do) can do Keen.

From a gameplay design standpoint, only Tom can do Keen. That's what I mean.

But this thread is supposed to be about Duke Nukem II. Not Keen.

How about reverse-engineering the engine, then using the content with your permission (if any)? What would be the legal aspects of doing it?

Of course I don't know about programming any other than php so I'm just speculating.

Eh? So that would basically mean that making another FPS engine for example, would be illegal. Since you would be closely imitating the style another engine works.
