Oh damn, I didn't realise Ash was in there, I thought it was just villains... that's why I voted for Pinhead

I predict Ash will win this by about 5000%. Hail to the king, baby!

Edit: incidentally, Frankenstein was the creator, not the monster... but I suppose it doesn't make much difference

No the creator was Dr. Frankenstein, the monster was The Frankenstein Monster, aka Frankenstein.

For me it was between Ash and Jason, but I picked Ash, in the end.... It doesnt even matter!! :-p

Jason, because :

Part from the start of the series, Jason is the one you will base your classic horror film on. He is bad. Classic horror films are about the bad guy. He is a monster. Friday the 13th VII shows this to us. He has a mask, which adds a edge, and makes him cool, and gives him an instantly recognisable, easy to find thing. The mask adds to the inhuman/mystery theme. He has a weapon of his own, a machette, which is cool enough to be distinct (not a knife or a sword [mike myers??] but common enough [glove, as cool as it is, isn't easy to emulate] He has demonic connections, as well as humane ones. He is faster, stronger, and bigger than you.

There is everything that a good horror guy should have, with one emmission : One liners, but his is more physical... the others might suffer, eg : ash isn't evil, freddy doesnt have a mask, Mike myers doesnt look that cool, or bigger, Pinhead has no mask, or do shit himself. the alien has nothing to do with people.

Yeah he's a good guy, but he's still a horror movie icon. He's one of the only character's in horror films to have a series and be the hero.

Most of the time it's the badguy that continues from one movie to the next. With Evil Dead... it was the goodguy that went to the next film.

But come on... it's Ash!!

Hmmm, tough choice... the Xenomorph I guess. Ash would be a close second.

You also forgot to mention Ghostface (the killer from the Scream movies), he's a pretty well known horror movie icon.

Actually in the original novel the creator was Victor Frankenstein, not a doctor (though one imagines he'd have gotten his doctorate if his technique had worked, rather than creating a twisted abomination ). The monster never had a name, but in his narrative Frankenstein refers to it/him as his "daemon", i.e. ever-present watching spirit, because it/he keeps following him around... relentlessly

At least you didn't think the creator was Dracula o/

Am I the only person here who's surprised no-one's voted for Freddy Kreuger? At least he's more interesting than Michael Myers (I'm probably the only person who thought Halloween was boring as hell)...

It's a damn shame they resorted to him portraying a part-time stand-up comedian, during his dream killing escapades. He was less formidable by then.

I voted Ash, but Freddy was the runner up. Nightmare on Elm Street flicks got me into horror movies.

Had to go with Dracula, who is one of the most influencial movie monsters of all time. He's the model for vampires as they exist today in popular culture, and there's no doubt that vampires are still abundant in books, movies, and video games.

Norman Bates.

Why, well - he is the most realistic of them all. Anyone can be a Norman Bates and you wouldn't know it - and that, is truly much more scary than a guy with a mask and a big knife who returned from the dead, because as far as we know - this doesn't happen.

Not to mention Bates was based upon the real life Ed Gein, giving his character some more credibility.

So for me that is the horror movie icon. But not necessarily my favorite. My fav would have to be not just Pinhead but his Cenobites as well - very creative and creepy humanoids. Scarier than Freddy, Jason, Michael, etc.

I'm gonna go with Jaws. That movie changed the way people view beaches forever. In fact, it was such a good movie, it was impossible to make a good sequel, as they all paled in comparison.

Second place would probably be Alfred Hitchcock. Then either Jason Voorhees or Norman Bates.
