Prey Weekly Update #9
Welcome to the latest edition of the Prey Weekly Update series. A few weeks ago you were told you'd get an update from Venom games in the UK on the Xbox 360 version of Prey. That's what we're bringing you today. This week's update is not from Chris at Human Head, but it's by Peter Johnson at Venom Games in the UK.
Chris will return next week with the next Prey Weekly Update. There's plenty to read in Peter's update, so let's get right to it.... We started work in earnest on bringing Prey to the 360 in late June 2005, although we had been looking at the code a little before that to ready ourselves and plan our attack. It was amusing to see on some gaming forums that some posters seemed to think that the announcement about it last month meant that we had just started work on it, this is far from the case. As our aim was to keep everything as faithful to the PC original as possible, we knew it would be mainly a coding job, with relatively little work needed on the art side. It broke down into a number of tasks - converting the engine itself to get it running on the 360 platform, and the areas where we needed to make changes to better suit the platform - such as the control system, the front end and the integration of Xbox Live. http://www.3drealms.com/news/2006/03...kly_dev_9.html

Although I am not interested in playing Prey on xbox 360, what this guys achieved in such a short period of time is applaudable. Bravo venom games!

Nice update... Although, i'm not interested in getting a X360 to play Prey, i'm deffenately glad to hear that both gamers will get a similar gaming experience...

My guess, is it's winning a MultiPrey fight, with using wrench only...

Re: Prey Weekly Update #9
Nice update, but the controler setup for the crouching looks a little bit strange imo, in most shooters for the Xbox (and it always worked) you can crouch with a click on the right stick and not with the B button...

To throw my hat in on the Grease Monkey Idea I think it has to do with killing and killing with the monkey wrench.
Basically doing lots and lots of melee kills with the monkey wrench as your prefered weapon. I hope I get a prize if I'm right. -Maniac |

Re: Prey Weekly Update #9
Even though I don't own a 360, I still found this to be the longest and most interesting update. A lot of good info on how to get Prey to have the closest experience to the PC version. Sounds like a lot of effort they are putting into the development of it. Good read.

Re: Prey Weekly Update #9
In my oppinion, the X360 version delivers much more than the pc version.
Achievements, Gamescore, Live! (Nothing at pc can never come close to Live!), .. .Im glad to hear about all the exstras they are making to the X360 version.. |

So appearantly there must be something the PC version has, that they're trying to add into the X360 version... Of course, i realize that this is just your opinion, and i can't demand from you that you have to agree with any of us, or reversed...

I didn't read all of it since I am totally not interested in an Xbox version.
![]() Still, there where some interesting parts on porting, more so since I once made a port of MAME (I know, it's not as big as prey but some principles are the same. )

Re: Prey Weekly Update #9
A grease monkey is usually a mechanic who repairs the ships. So I guess it has something to do with that.

Re: Prey Weekly Update #9
Perhaps it involves killing with the mass tow on the shuttle. Or using it to fling the wrench & skewer enemies.

My very first guess was beating certain amounts of Multiprey oppenents with the wrench...
Maybe beat a cettain amount of enemies with the wrench... Or just beat a few/buch of levels with it...
