Rare Belgen...

Think they just used Build to make a test map.

Duke Nukem and Sleep
Ever thought there was a relation between sleep and videogames, especially Duke Nukem? You might want to read up on this study by Belgian scientists, who used Duke Nukem as a test subject in a sleep study. Here's what they did:

To test the theory, the researchers gave the volunteers place-finding missions in a virtual city created in the Duke Nukem game. After an initial period of training to get used to the virtual terrain, the gamers were asked to find landmarks around the city while the scientists mapped their brain activity with MRI.

Check it out, it's an interesting read.

Surprised their study didn't cover the effects of having nightmares from waiting for DNF.

When you want to learn a map, you sleep on it. Huh!

Once again, Duke Nukem shows us the way!

you know, i wonder why they used build, and not some newer engine.

maybe they could not afford better hardware to run this test.

So in short, if you don't sleep you have to think harder but you will have the same results as when you do sleep. Please don't tell this to my boss.

Belgians always have the most awesome tests o/

Lol just kidding - But why did they chose Duke Nukem for the job, and not, say, some Unreal game, that can have much more complicated structures?

I wonder, if they had DNF running, how the sleep may affect gamers ability to remember every frame to reproduce it on photoshop for an unofficial screenshots...

Here's a link to the actual paper:

http://biology.plosjournals.org/perl...l.pbio.0040100

"For the spatial navigation task, the virtual environment adapted from [2] was created and presented using a commercially available computer game (Duke Nukem 3D, 3D Realms Entertainment, Apogee Software Ltd., Garland, Texas, United States)."

And there are some low resolution screenshots if you download the unnecessarily large TIF files. Yup, that's my Build alright : ) To save you the inconvenience, I attached the interesting part:
