Hey guys!

I want to present you a SP project I'm currently working on with my partner "Psychokiller" from the Doom3 RTH team. We've been working on it for 2 weeks now and have some stuff we'd like to show you

Here is a short description of the story:
The "Soul Gems" are three mystic stones. Every stone stands for a virtue and gives the player a specific amount of power. Without knowing it Tommy is the key to these stones and gets into a deadly game that threatens the fate of earth.
The player can look forward to fighting against the aliens again in atmospheric levels with varied gameplay and an exciting story that ties in with Prey.

Nice! Especially the last two shots are impressive ... I'm very curious about that ship coming through a portal in the Land of the Ancients...

Oh, and I guess you're not going to tell what power the gems give, are you?

They will be useful for you to solve different puzzles and to influence your health and spirit And the third stone ... well it'll help you knocking down enemies
I'll post a screen of a huge room I'm currently doing soon

My only recommendation I can give for this is, unless these maps take place on the Sphere (or ANOTHER Sphere, or the homeworld, which I find unlikely and would figure that the Sphere WAS the holeworld), you might want to add some custom textures. As cool as it looked, after running around that thing for so long, I want to see something that looks considerably different from the Sphere.

I LOVE the LotA pic though, with the large ship coming through the portal.

Listen dude, you guys are n00bs. You guys suck to the core. The mapping is awfull. All the textures are overscaled. The lighting is plain ugly. You guys should go to a kindergarten school rather than whining over here.

lol, your an idiot. I havent seen any mod from you jet. You better make a perfect "Im gonna buy prey to play this mod" mod or your the biggest lozer in this forum.

Give them some slack, i think their doing great. An even if they are a first time modder, you got to start some time...

Here's some suggustions...


Mabye we can have Tommy in Norway or Celtic Ireland (since Runes/Gems play a
rule in Norse/Celtic mythologies)

and what about designing new enemies?

True I also like that mystic stuff. As the story deals with the Cherokee legends like Prey does it would be difficult to combine it with celtic elements. Although the Irish and celtic mythology is pretty interesting as well.

I wish I would have enough experience in modeling and animating to do new enemies We would have to find someone who's got enough time to model the enemy and animate it. The UV map and the textures also need time.
But we want to finish it until the ned of September because I'm moving from here to the University. So I won't have much time for mapping any longer

Spreading out to different religions and cultures is a cool idea, but it could easily become far too Stargate SG-1 if you go too far with the idea.

It might be better to stick with the Native American concept, but perhaps just choose a different Tribe to derive ideas from?

@Zixinus: Ofc the dialogues and text's will be in english. The only problem left is how to make Tommy's and Enisis voice.

My only concern is with that large portal the ship comes through.

Is that a proper portal with a missing camera target or a floating texture? Because if it's a portal, it'll play hell with the framerate for people who have shaders enabled. Think of the bending space effect used....

awesome mod, where do u get ur inspiration? coz i get as far as creating a room, and texturing the walls, ground and ceiling then become stuck and dont know what to do next, iv got no level design sense :S

About inspiration: You can get it from movies, books, games just from everywhere... but you shouldn't rip off other peoples ideas/ copy them.
Try to get an idea what could happen in each room and draw your level on paper to get an overview. Practise and time will make you more experienced.

Best to think of a theme or a plot first. Just come up with something a bit more in-depth than "I'm a guy in an alien environment killing things" and you'll find level design will come a lot easier.

Yes. Story comes first. Then think about 4 or 5 important story related events that happen in a map and then start creating the level around it. A very rough explanation but it's the way I usually create levels.
