The death mod and possessed children minimod
Hello,

I made two mini mods for Prey :
  • Death Mod 0.1 : No more deathwalk. When you die, you can just reload a previous saved game. File here.
  • Possessed Children 0.2 : Changes ghost children into real possessed children, like in the firsts screenshots of the game. File here.

Enjoy !

Thanks for the mods, nice work.

That'll shut people up A better alternative would be to have deathwalk as a feature you can toggle on and off before you start a new game.

There was a long discussion about what Deathwalk, and I think the cunclusion was that, that is the deathwalk script can be modified, it might make a more intresting gameplay.

Something like, making you collect all the spirits goffing there before you are allowed to go back to the real world.

Great job, btw.

Deathwalk could be interesting with a real goal, in the firsts times of use... But I think it would be quickly wearying for the player. By removing it, I just permitted the player to enjoy an elementary right : death !

Re: The death mod and possessed children minimod
It's quite simple : I modified the file that determines how their model are displayed to the screen (white, with glow and translucent for the original model). I just let these parameters for the children's bloodlines and eyes. This gave an good effect : when the children are in a bright zone, they seem quite normal, but when they are in a dark one, they glow. The harder was to modify the behavior of the children when the player fire at them, as I didn't know the file system used by Prey, but I learned

For the Death Mod, it's more simple : in the original game, the deathwalk was made by the player in three different levels (depending of the difficulty level I think maybe), and, for each level of the single player game, the game defined which deathwalk level to use when the player dies. I simply changed this value into "none" for each level of the game !
