Re: Triton
Thanks to your support, the Triton service was a technological success in its launch, but unfortunately it saddens me to announce that the Triton service is offline. The company itself is undergoing an reorganization process. As a Triton customer, one thing that has always been pledged was to make sure that you as a customer would be taken care of. As a result, I wanted to inform those that have purchased games on the system that there will be a patch that will remove the online dependency for the games as promised and allow you to play, backup and reinstall your game that you purchased as you see fit. This patch will be coming very soon, and once the patch is ready, I will send an email with instructions on how to install this patch.

For those that purchased Prey, I have talked with Take 2, 3D Realms, and Human Head studios. 2K has set up a replacement program for customers who purchased Prey via the Triton download service.A new boxed copy of Prey will be shipped to each customer who purchased the game via Triton and www.playtriton.com. You will not have to do anything as you should receive a retail boxed copy of Prey in the mail soon to the address we have on file. This will allow you to move forward with any patches to the game that come out from the publisher/developer.

As I promised before launch, for those that have any questions on the address to be sent to, or the patch of the games on the system, you can still reach me at [thebox a.t. obwando.com] and I will do my best to support you during this time of transition.

Best wishes,

Royal 'OBWANDO' O'Brien

Very nice. I was curious as to if a replacement program like this would actualy work for those who purchased through Triton. Glad to see it's being handled so well.
It's nice to see such care and support for customers, the main reason I'm such a fan of this place.

Ok so this is sounding great, but I have two questions:

1)This boxed replacement program is only for those who purchased the game after Triton went down correct ?

2)There will be released a patch fairly shortly independently of that program re-enabling us to play Prey ?

No. Anyone who purchased on Triton will get that.

As for your #2 question, read Obwando's post.

Just a heads up. Those people that did have it fully downloaded can currently play in the service's offline mode (both single and multiplayer). Its just that it will have a timeout of a couple minutes starting up. However as the servers were updated, playing on a 1.2 server with the 1.1 patch will be an issue.

I'm surprised someone didn't ask that sooner.

I don't have an answer on that yet, but I'll be keeping people updated. I doubt it will be tomorrow, but I also doubt it will be any great length of time, either.

Yeah, to clarify - folks with the game on Triton have v1.1 most likely (unless you haven't connected in a really long time and still have 1.0). Either way, as the official servers have been updated to 1.2, and most of the private servers will be there shortly, you won't be able to play against people online, unless you find a 1.1 server.

Each of the three version numbers can only play against like version numbers (1.0/1.1/1.2). When the Triton folks get their boxed copy in the mail, it will be the original pressing v1.0 CDs. You can then download the 1.2 patch that is available for anyone and be up to speed.

Well this is good news. Nice to see them do the right thing. And I have to commend Obwando for taking his own personal time to ease the minds of Triton's users. That's what they call going above and beyond the call of duty.

If he's out of a job cause of this someone should snap him up right quick. I'm sure he'll have a number of references.

UPDATE: I decided to check with 2K to see what was actually being shipped. Turns out I was talking out my ass. Here is what 2K told me when I asked them what will actually be shipped to customers:

Quote:
It's the base version (not LCE version) that shipped in their country. So for US it's a cd, canada it's a bilgual cd, europe is a dvd...
So whatever you would have bought in your country is what you'll get.

Bilingual CD for Canada? So that means the US CD version only has English? I got the LCE so it has like 4 languages so I wouldn't know.

I've not personally seen one, but this sounds about right from what I remember of that version.

Awesome response w/ the fix, but one question remains. What about the hundreds who got it for free at Showdown Lanfest? I don't recall if I updated my address into the system or not, but a lot of the other LANmaniac fellas that attended didn't. Can you retreive our information from the PDXLAN staff?

Thanks,

If you are in Triton's system, you will get one. It's as simple as that.

I was told that in order to play in that Lanfest, you had to register. If you did, you'll get one. If you did not you won't. It really is that simple.

Re: Triton
Ugh, I wish I would have known that you guys actually care about customer service (unlike EA, Valve, etc). When Triton went down before they could give me a CD key, I assumed I was tanked and reversed the transaction with my CC company. I hope that all gets taken care of and I either A: Dont get a copy of the game because it was already reversed (and get box copy in a store) or B: I get a copy and my CC company is still in a holding period and I can cancel the dispute.

Either way, this move reflects highly on 3D Realms, and you've earned at least 1 loyal customer for future releases and my word of mouth regarding your reputable practices. *thumbs up*
