Music in Duke Nukem 2 from Megadeth?
Hello!
I recognized that two songs of the background music in Duke Nukem 2 are very similiar to songs of the band Megadeth: 1. level: Megadeth - Angry Again 5. level (the rust-colored steel girder level): Megadeth - Skin O' My Teeth Do you know some more songs in this or other Duke games? Jump'n'Runner |

I remember hearing about the Angry Again one on the Megadeth Forums, and it did sound VERY similar.

Re: Music in Duke Nukem 2 from Megadeth?
Just checked. The guitars in Angry Again are partially (the tail riffs) used in "He's Back", and the guitars in Skin O' My Teeth are partially taken to the "Squeak" song in Duke Nukem 2.
This reminds me, I should really make that list I once started of Bobby Prince's use of metal band riffs in his compositions. Like the Pantera ones in Doom.

Wow, nice, I didn't realize this...of course I didn't listen to Alice in Chains/Megadeth/etc when I was younger much either so I didn't know about Doom borrowing them...
Don't forget about Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure and ZZTop. Bobby Prince knew that imitation was the sincerest form of flattery. It's too bad that censorship meant that the realism factor was reduced by having to leave the Horst Wessel Lied out of all those versions of Wolfenstein. Oh well, it's the one Apogee song you probably DON'T want to go around whistling. |

Another thing, are NUKEMANA.IMF (Episode 2 level 1, and the one arctic level that's outside,) "Kiss The Girls And Make Them Cry" (kisgirla.imf, in a few levels) from anything?

Re: Music in Duke Nukem 2 from Megadeth?
You need to extract the .IMF files from the NUKEM2.CMP with a tool (I can't remember what I used to do it with) and download the AdPlug plugin for Winamp or another media player to play them with.
It is possible to somehow convert the IMF files to MIDIs but I have no clue about that, either. I also found this, not only did they use the music made by other people, alot of the textures seem to have been taken from the game Turrican: http://www.nemmelheim.de/turrican/news/duke/

Sang--
http://www.chiptune.de/adlib/Apogee.zip Also, google AdPlug to get the winamp plugin. Daedelon--haha, I own the SNES Super Turrican and honestly didn't notice that!! The DN2 weapon and item pickup sounds were also straight off of the same ones from the SNES Castlevania 4. You don't want to convert IMFs to MIDIs. The coding, timing and instrumentation are different so some of the effect gets lost. |

Re: Music in Duke Nukem 2 from Megadeth?
Is it normal that it's playing at hyperspeed using that plugin?

Re: Music in Duke Nukem 2 from Megadeth?
Download 1.4a version of the plugin, it has the supposedly normal speed in it. The 1.4 played it fast, I mailed the author about it and he changed it back to normal. But the 1.5 again plays it with fast speed.
The newest Winamp seems to play them at normal speed without any plugins but only in mono (left speaker only). Which is why I refer the plugin myself.

Re: Music in Duke Nukem 2 from Megadeth?
That fixed it, thanks
![]() Man - The Squeak intro is almost EXACTLY the same as Skin O' My Teeth. As for Heback, the riff is constructed in the same way but apart from that they sound that much alike. BTW - Anyone else noticed the beginning of Nukemana sounds a bit like the riff in Metallica's Enter Sandman? It's a bit faster, but has the same notes - or so it seems.

It's similar, but it changes too much to be in any way comparable to Bobby Prince's other imitations.

Re: Music in Duke Nukem 2 from Megadeth?
Speaking of Cosmo, I think it's... level 10 or 11 in Cosmo? The music is a cover of "Move It On Over" by George Thorogood and the Destroyers.

Re: Music in Duke Nukem 2 from Megadeth?
Cosmo's theme song is based off of Tush from ZZ Top, and some Duke II music is off of Metallica, not Megadeth, but it's 3:45AM right now, I don't remember which at the moment - I'm tired.

Re: Music in Duke Nukem 2 from Megadeth?
UBDEADA.IMF reminds me of Metallica's For Whom the Bells Tolls (the e g f# f, e g f# f, e g f# f, e f# g a part).
NUKEMANA.IMF does sound like Metallica's Enter Sandman. PROWLA.IMF reminds me a little bit of Metallica's No Remorse (the e e D E e e D E part). SQUEAKA.IMF and KINGDUKA.IMF remind me both of Metallica's Master of Puppets. NEVRENDA.IMF reminds of a little bit of Metallica's The Call of Ktulu (and Megadeth's Hangar 18). |
