Gmail -> Hotmail vanishing again?

I suspected it when I wrote to my American friend with a Hotmail address and never got a reply (especially since I'd been sending him pictures he really wanted), and now I've tested it with my own Hotmail address, it seems more certain: Gmail can't talk to Hotmail! This appears to be both when writing through the web interface and sending through their SMTP server, or at least their UK one (smtp.googlemail.com).

I'm aware this was happening back in 2004, but I haven't found any recent articles mentioning the problem, and I didn't have any trouble e-mailing my American friend until recently. I hope it's not simply that I'm Googlemail rather than "proper" Gmail

Are you using GMail's POP3 setup program? It should allow you to access GMail through Outlook and Outlook Express without any problems.

I've been gradually migrating all my e-mail stuff from Hotmail to GMail. Particularly because Hotmail cleans up my sent mail and junk mail folders without checking with me, first.

I don't think that's it, because I also tried sending mail to my Hotmail address from the web interface of my Googlemail, and it still hasn't arrived, hours later. Something screwy's going on here

Incidentally, I use Thunderbird, not Outlook Express, like all nerds should

Worth pointing out that I can write to my Hotmail address from my Yahoo.co.uk address without issue. What is going on?!

I have no problems at all, I can send and receive to/from hotmail accounts.

I communicate quite frequently with people using hotmail with my gmail account.

On web-based hotmail I can talk to my friend's gmail, so I'm not sure what your issue is.

It might be limited to Googlemail, the UK variant. I have no trouble writing to my Yahoo.co.uk account from Googlemail, or writing from Hotmail to Googlemail -- it's solely Googlemail to Hotmail that vanishes, and some of my research suggests this isn't unheard of...

It's always possible there's something wrong with just my Hotmail account, and my American friend has simply stopped writing to me...!

Edit: I'm so stupid, somehow I added my Googlemail address to my Hotmail blocked sender list!

Now to find out what's happened to my American friend -- maybe his Internet connection's been down for ages... it's Charter, so that wouldn't be surprising
