New map release: "Last Pissed Time"
I've completed my new EDuke32 map called "Last Pissed Time" (remembrance to Duke structure). I actually plan to make sequel maps someday, so this is only the first chapter. And I hope you'll like it. There's a solid dose of quest-style gameplay.

Description : My first map release that was fully made in
LEBuild. It features lots of spritework, tricky doors,
real complex design and, of course, advanced (but mostly
linear) gameplay. Unlike another BUILD maps, LPT is fully
laid out in a continuous Euclidean space, with many
overlapped areas. Besides, there's no visibility haze
(visibilities of all sectors are set to 240). The map
exceeds the original Duke limits and must be played with
EDuke32. Look forward to the sequels!

Base : New level from scratch

Construction Time : Very long (more than two years, but with
great breaks)
Known Bugs/Problems : Some sprite & mask disorder may be observed
due to engine issues. The game may (rarely) occasionally
crash, so save often. EDuke32 behaves very unstable when
viewing textured 2D-map, so avoid using it. You may also
encounter clipping glitches, e.g. getting squished by an
opened swing door. However, the map itself plays pretty
well.

*Important Information*

PLAY THIS MAP IN CLASSIC (SOFTWARE) MODE and use the latest
version of EDuke32. Recommended screen resolution is 640x480.
This map has some framerate demanding stuff, therefore you'll
need a good Core 2 processor or similar to play LPT smoothly.
It's also recommended to switch off ingame music due to rich
sound ambience. Gameplay mods should not be used in this map. You
should use the original (unaltered) Duke3D Atomic tilesets.

Couldnt quite make out what to do once I had the shrinker, I tried shrinking myself in the mirror to get the shrink ammo in the small hole at the start but Duke doesnt pick it up and you can't reach the other small hole in the room beside the one that has the switch to raise the water to get the shrinker because Duke falls through the sprites.

Cool ideas and spritework, but cofusing layout. I had the same problem as The Commander so I dnclipped the rest of the level.

There's a (secret) mirror in that secret hole, you should find out your reflection anyway. You only have to grow back and shrink again to pick up that ammo. And there is a way to go through the second one. Duke can't go onto sprites but this isn't even nedeed if you're accurate enough.

Yeah I relised that I had to hit the switch on the bottom so that the pillar wasnt in the way still.

I haven't played this yet, but I like the name. So are you going to make an episode with similarly named maps?

The idea is good but the actual name of this map is "Driston Infiltration" meaning that Duke has to get out of Driston Research Station, and the LPT series may be a trilogy.

nice map, bit confusing, but i liked the fact i had to use logic to solve it as well as just shooting monsters.
took me 73 minits to complete first time round, might try and cut that down a bit.

Haven't got far, but the combination puzzle was very nice. And the sliding text was very clever as well.

Yes, the text in it, i should have mentioned that. i might just have to borrow that technique at some point as that, and some of the animated screens ect were just fantastic.

This map isn't designed for mods such as DukePlus and it looks best in the 8-bit mode (please pay some attention to the template).

So I'm blocked with the "color lock", damn !
I don't want to know the exact combination, just tell me if I got the right inspiration : I've to find the solution in the LEbuild promo-panel, right ? Perhaps in the last word, the one with almot the letters in green and one in red ?

It wasn't obvious here - until I saw the puzzle itself. I was wondering what the colored numbers were for on the crates beforehand...then forgot about them because of lots of other action.

My first reaction to the puzzle was - this sucks! 6 buttons with different colors...and then - Aha!

I'd keep it just the way it is.

I had a different mental blockage: the shrinker puzzle. I couldn't figure that one out for awhile. Even went into mapster to look at what was going on...and still didn't get it. FINALLY looked through the passageway and saw a panel rotate...

This was one of the most enjoyable maps I've played. Period. But that's just me.

Thanks for playing and commenting. Now I'm planning to start LPT II featuring another cool puzzles and ideas but I can't estimate yet when I could finish it. I'll try to make the sequel less confusing anyway...

Thanx to your advice I finally reached the end !
In short, a truly great map that reminds me my beloved Billy Boy maps.
Some advices for the next chapter : I tried LPT also with Duke3dw (the modified Jonof port done by ProAsm) and there's a critical bug when you reach the heating control room thru the vent. Also, you can try to use less memory-eating features : I got frequently memory-related crash with my PC and it's not too old.

It's useless to try LPT on any another port, the map requires EDuke32 to run properly. I was never using Duke3dw but now I ran it with LPT, it couldn't show its amounts of sprites and lacks most of the interpolations, and yes - it crashes when I enter the air conditioning center. I can't do anything with this...

I was thinking "Billy Boy" myself while playing LPT. That's not faint praise

Eduke32 all the way & no looking back.

CraigFatman, the confusion is absolutely part of the fun factor. It quite literally added many hours of enjoyment when playing LPT. Keep it up!!

I wonder that LPT often causes the game "randomly" crash with no reason... It is strange because I had only a few of occasional crashes for all the time I was making the map. I hadn't experienced this and there's no problem for me in completing the map without saving. It looks like game stability depends on a machine even in classic mode. But I still can't figure out why Duke always crashes in 8-bit automap mode when I look at some places on it... I can only see that the "flat" sectors are displayed improperly there because they have zero area.

Well, why do you think that it is caused by memory? EDuke32 uses really tiny amounts of RAM...

Man that was an amazing map! Got stuck quite a few times though -- especially on puzzles with spatial separation (didn't know where to enter 30+4*14 first, for example). The mirror puzzle was great! Locations were excellent -- that's how a research station is supposed to be !

I found that engine blowing is rather trivial and I decided to replace it with pissing for this once. =) Isn't it suggesting to piss into it? May be it's confusing a bit, but I think the "refill" label and map title are sufficient for this.

I am really stuck on the part where you enter "left" "right" "huh?" in the computer centre, after that I go to the room on the left of "pick up bart" and get back to the beginning, I see no way to progress. I have exhausted almost every option that I can think of and really running out of ideas. And I have been searching for a long time now.

Otherwise a really awesome map, I can easily spend a lot of time at just looking the effects and some are just amazing, such as the elevator that dims to black.

If you don't have RPG yet, go back through the hallway with those "manual tripping" stairs and explore the 6th flat in another hallway. Then you may go down through the "pick up bart" door.
