Lightbulb Disney acquires Marvel Entertainment
This displeases me. I grew up reading comics and hate to see Disney of all companies get their grubby mitts on the Marvel superheros.

On the bright side, fans who enjoy Disney movies with shallow emo characters can now look forward to all the PG-13 rated rubbish their little hearts can handle.

That's just great. Wonder how much the characters will be "toned-down" to be Disney-fied.

Expect the following changes:

Wolverine will be calmed down after going to anger management class;
Every villain that dies will fall off a cliff and disappear into the darkness;
There will be musical interludes;
A cute, marketable sidekick will join the X-Men;

But seriously though, even thought they bought them, it doesn't mean they will change anything. Disney has several child companies that create and distribute M rated movies and games. The new Turok was published by one of Disney's child companies.

Awesome! Now we can look forward to G rated Marvel flicks with huge budgets! Then again, Disney did allow the multiple hangings scene at the start of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, there may still be hope.

Ah, I heard about this, I'm not really a fan of either company any more, in earlier times they were great, but now they both don't appeal to me that much - especially disney with their Emo/Beanie-Bopper crap, as for Marvel, maybe I just outgrew them.

It still saddens me, a lot of companies are getting bought or disappearing this year, and it's not good.

Two comments on this I saw at Shacknews:

Quote:
Before everyone panics...

Disney owns more shit than you probably realize.

The litmus test has always been that Disney owns Miramax, which put out Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill.

Disney owns ABC which had NYPD Blue on for twelve years (granted, it's pretty tame compared to The Shield but still)

Disney owns the Muppets, but you don't see them whoring those properties out with Mickey Mouse and shit.

I'd bet money that Iron Man 2 comes out as planned with a PG-13 rating and no mention of Disney whatsoever.
And:

Quote:
For what its worth, I'm friendly with a few artists and writers who do work for Marvel and DC. They're not particularly concerned. One mused "Oh. The branding on my check might change"

Quite a few "comic books" are of a higher level of eduction than a lot of so-called "books". Let's stay on topic shall we?

Reading impediment have you? Many a comic book have a more thought out in depth story than a lot of so-called "books" like a lot of the romantic novels by Harlequin Romance for example. Don't be such an elitist.

Nothing to contribute to the actual discussion, he just felt the need to post his impeccable opinion about comic books and their level of standards. And you say he isn't trolling?

Anyways, Disney has been known to make room for more mature content in the past, I just hope as well that they have 0% influence on the future of Marvel.

Alright, all I have to say is that I hope there aren't mayor chances to the Marvel universe which is the thing that maybe most people will care about. I hope nothing changes regarding artists and well if they're going to produce movies, I'd like to point out something. Pixar's films have been succesful in the past but, at least what I'm looking after, is at live action films of all the ol' Marvel characters, sure Marvel produces animated films but what interests me is how they manage to translate their stories to real life, with real actors, with emotions and well, keeping the fiction too.
I'm not saying Pixar's films are not hearted films, definitely no, but as I said, what interests me is how they translate it to real actors in a live action film.

Well, to the off-topic discussion here.. I know some people don't see comics the way people who like them see them. I told my ladyfriend I was reading Maus and everything about it, and how is that it's the only comicbook to win a Pulitzer. But still when I say to her I'm reading it she gets angry 'cause I'm wasting my time on 'it'.
So, here's an easy example on how relevant a comicbook can be, but at the same time how underappreciated they are.
