Max Payne 2 modding tools info
This morning I received an email from Remedy that they requested be placed online. It's about the modding tools for Max Payne 2. Check it out.

MODDING TOOLS TO BE DISTRIBUTED WITH MAX PAYNE 2: THE FALL OF MAX PAYNE

Continuing in the footsteps of the original Max Payne, the necessary tools to make custom user-made modifications to the game Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne will be released with the game as the PC version is released this Fall. Several user-made modifications were made (and still are being made) to the original Max Payne including the almost legendary Kung-Fu mod.

Petri Järvilehto comments on the modding: "We've been watching closely what people have been doing with the tools from the first game, so it'll be very interesting to see what people can come up with when they get access to the new and much improved toolset of Max Payne 2".

More details of the modding of Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne will be made available later.

This is nice news indeed.
Hopefully the improved toolset results for a few more finished mods.

Maybe I'll have time to actually try and make something for the second iteration. Only played around a little with the tools for the first.

Cool (although I'm not too surprised)

I wonder what some of these new features will be?

Re: Max Payne 2 modding tools info
maxed2 will b soo great, there will be sum same features and there will be sum new one's if only i knew what they are.

from what i heard, mp2 has lip-synching enabled in the game so you can see the characters talking and looking life-like. will maxed2 be able to let you make your own mods that will also feature custumisable lip-synching i.e. make your own speech and dialogue and emotions for characters to have in mods?

will maxed2 be in the same boat as half-life 2's level editor, as in you put a brick texture sumwhere and the brick sound fx comes with it automatically so you dont have to look thru files to find a wav for brick, steel, concrete, grass, stairs, all sorts of sounds that comes with a texture of sumthing when you put them sumwhere in a level?

will maxed2 be easily able to view character models and click them and then add them onto levels sumwhere?

what about the speech and dialogue in mp2 will they be easily accessible to get and listen and apply it to certain characters in levels?

will actor fx be included in the mp2 modding tools or will there be sum other improved better character animation tools included as in maybe 3dsm with mp2 or milkshape or sumthing?

will reflections, water, fog, and other weather fx be mod-able as well as other havok physics that can be modified?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The first Max Payne already had that feature in MaxED. The texture materials were sorted into categories (metal, wood, glass, snow, ect...) that assigned the appropriate sounds/ particle effects to whatever textures that where placed in those catagories. Just like how you described it.

Maybe Maxed2 is the editor the folks in Mikrobitti were talking about in their Max Payne 1 Preview...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">1. Just extract the x_english.ras and you'll notice that they're accessible easily enough for you to listen. If you've been working with maxed for more than 5 minutes(or read the tutorials), you'll know that they're easily applied too.

2. Suuuure, the every max payne package should come with 3dsmax and a dongle.

Re: Max Payne 2 modding tools info
I understand that more info will follow later on, BUT I just need to ask and hopefully get my question answered when the "more info" arrives.

So I was wondering if it will be possible to import stuff from MP to MP2? Like levels or particle FX and so forth? Like it seems to be possible in HL2 -- to some extent at least.

Would be really useful to know what parts of a future modding project you could already start. So whenever Remedy feels ready for more info, I'd like to see that question answered.
