As it turns out I've still never been able to find the game but I wanted to answer the questions that you asked in the thread, since I'd still love to find this game again somehow. In reply to your questions, I think that the game was pre-shareware and I think that it was EGA but I'm not sure on that one at all-- it was tile-based, like Chip's Challenge. I don't think the sound was PC Speaker, since it had one little line of dialogue.

This is way overdue, of course, since you posted your comments in the thread back in March. If any of this helps and you can find the game though, thank you, it'd be really, really appreciated.
