I feel sorry for GB

If I were George I dont think I would handle the whole DNF situation as well as he is doing right now. After all these years, I would be depressed about the whole thing and probably a little bitter. You might say he brought this on himself, but all he wanted to do is give us a really great game - which is a noble cause. I think some people forget he was the brilliant mind behind Duke 3d. More than anything though, the insults and pestering from whiney fanboys would really set me over the edge. Mean while, The posts he leaves show paitence and maturity, its a sign that hes a good guy. And so what im trying to say is LEAVE GEORGIE ALONE!! :D

Re: I feel sorry for GB

Chris Crocker aside, this is a valid point. Christ knows the amount of stress that both George and Scott are under at this point. It's obvious that the franchise will always be there baby and they still care for it as such.

Re: I feel sorry for GB

While I don't entirely support some choices George has made regarding Duke Nukem Forever etc., I do agree with you, twist, that some people here perhaps ought to think about this whole situation from George's POV. I know that I have written some things that may be found offensive, but they shouldn't generally be viewed as that. All and all, I agree with you twist.

Re: I feel sorry for GB

...and here we all are having to live with modding Duke 3D to a point of what we think DNF is going to be like, but even that's not enough.

I agree. But, there will always be people venting their frustration by insulting George, and being all "F**K GB, give the game to someone else to develop, someone who can actually finish a game blah blah etc etc."
some people -Actually- make some good points in their posts, but i am tired of reading the exact same thing over and over again, just worded differently..

Yea. I'm sick and tired of all the bickering, negativity and blame-fests. It's non-productive and it does not help anyone. There's plenty of other great games out there to spend some time with.
Of course, we all want DNF and if it goes gold sometime, great! But if it does not happen, then it was just not meant to be!

I feel sorry for Joe.

From the sounds of it, he's still without a job. :(

Re: I feel sorry for GB

totally agreed. i made a thread similar to this. people need to understand how hard it is to follow up to something like duke3d. damn near impossible. they could have made a duke3d clone like call of duty did with mw2.

****in' Dopefish too. Can't forget the dopefish. Long live the dopefish and Duke Nukem.

I just hope that the trillion duke games in devellopment will have the quality expected from a duke game... not feel like a money grabbin scheme... if so... the duke franchise will die quickly without glory... (duke3d for iphone felt like a quick moneygrab... its unplayable and there is no music in the game...)

I feel bad for George too, but releasing duke games that nobody wants isn't the solution for bringing duke back in the game...

dear god, I just want a FPS duke game, thats all...

8IronBob 12-29-2009 09:21 AM

Re: I feel sorry for GB

Pfft...yeah, it's almost like Take Two WANTS to turn the Duke franchise into something that 3DR never intended it to be. Wouldn't surprise me if they pried the Duke IP out of their hands after that lawsuit's done for. We're screwed... :(

Btw dnf is about to make history: First game to be in development in 3 different decades

Duke's New Chainsaw 12-29-2009 11:10 PM

Re: I feel sorry for GB

A decade is ten years. DNF has been in development for around 12 years...

I know what you're getting at but....

Wow it really has been a long time! We have come so far yet somehow gone backwards.

Those thumbnails still feel like they appeared yesterday.

By the way Joe I really hope you find employment soon. I still feel like you were the one holding this community truly together and at the very least "in check".

Indeed. If they already have a webmaster, I doubt he/she has as many years of experience as Joe has. So good luck finding a job Joe! ;)

Unless you're kidding, you do know he's still a multi-millionaire, right? :)

3D Realms being broke does not translate to GB being broke. Apogee (DBA 3D Realms) is a Limited partnership with its own social security number. Being sued by Take 2 will not affect GB or Scott's personal wealth. Else you wouldn't see GB posting on his Twitter from Vegas about how much he's gambled away without breaking a sweat.

The only people financially affected by this "crisis" are employees who lost their jobs, and Take 2 who paid a two-million-dollar advance to 3DR.

I'm sure the income GB receives from sales of Duke3D XBLA and the inferior iPhone port are more than enough to cover his property taxes.

Jiminator 12-30-2009 11:21 PM

Re: I feel sorry for GB

that's what I am saying. no doubt he has lost a considerable portion of his personal wealth financing this duke fiasco, but nobody needs to feel sorry for him. :)

Yatta 12-31-2009 12:57 AM

Re: I feel sorry for GB

I knew you had to be kidding. :)

Also for the record, I don't think he used any of his personal wealth to finance Duke. CEOs usually never risk their own wealth to finance company projects.
