ROTT Online?

I have had the urge to play ROTT online recently, but as it seems there is no way to play it online with others, besides using dosbox ipx.

So i was thinking what if we made something like YANG (http://yang-online.com/), where it uses dosbox to launch the game and puts the game up on a room list so others can join. Its open source so i'm sure someone could edit YANG to do this.

It would at least make it possible to play with other people.

Re: ROTT Online?

Maybe Birger could use this as a starting point for WinROTT? Does anyone know if WinROTT's any closer to online multiplayer (jbailey??)?

Being clueless about all things like this, would it take much to make ROTT work with this? Is it a matter of just port forwarding, writing a script or actually modding? :)

Well i'm not sure but it seems to me that i wouldn't be too hard to get the dos version of ROTT running through this.

Me and birger have tried to make the net code in winrottgl better, but we've
never had much luck, I'm currently waiting to see what the guys at
icculus.org will do with their version of rott, if they can get good net play
running in their version, I'm planning on talking to them about incorporating
their net code into winrottgl. But for now, it's a waiting game.

Re: ROTT Online?

I mailed Replica and he said this:

"Playing Rise of the Triad on YANG will be possible one day on a new YANG version that is currently still under development and we don't have any release date yet.
I can say though it will most likely not be this year that we will release a new YANG version with new features as it's far to be completed and Turrican our coder has no time this year due to real life issues so the development of YANG has slowed down a bit until we can get back on track with the coding."

So there's hope of online Com-Batt yet... :)

Re: ROTT Online?

YANG v0.90 has been released today :

A major change is the added support for any DOS game (by using DOSBox) : you can create custom DOS game profiles, in the new "Custom DOS games" tab, located in the menu "Settings -> Source ports" dialog.

Also, both the Single-Player and Multiplayer dialogs have been rewritten : now, there will be a tab for each of the main games supported by YANG (a tab will only appear if you have selected at least one source port for this main game), allowing to only display the relevant options for each of the main games, and also, now each of the settings/options will be saved separately between each of the main games.

This is just a summary of the main changes done for this new YANG version : for much more information, be sure to also read the full changelog on the main YANG web site @ http://yang-online.com

Re: ROTT Online?

Does it allow ANY dos games? Is it something like Hamachi?

Re: ROTT Online?

I'd like to play ROTT and other DOS games (Terminal Velocity, Death Rally, etc.) online too. I've updated Yang to v0.90.
