We fans of DNF have held onto the belief that, despite ALL of the rigamarole, GB knew what makes games great, and that EVENTUALLY, our wait would be vindicated in some portion by a GREAT GAME. Unfortunately, now the long-time fans are left looking incredibly foolish, 3dr is left looking monumentally incompetent, and the ridicule shoveled on our faith by videos like this is painfully accurate and deserved.

Re: DNF review on escapist

Yeah, thats true, still I would not mind if DNF would be a straight forward shooter and not really speical, expect maybe you play Duke. As long as its fun to play, I would careless if the game looks brownish ala Gears of War or more colorful ala Half-Life 2.

I was sure from the beginning that DNF wont be the uber game everyone wanted it to be and we all nkow that 3DR didnt spend 12 years on it in a sraitght row, because of restarts and mismanagment.

But you know what Mark Twian said: "The rumors of my death are highly exaggerated." and a Germany saying goes "Those, Said death, live longer" and even if we wont play DNF, we sure will play some Duke Nukem game in the future.

"If one of those kids turns out brunette you have to start all over again"
:D

Funny as usual. Dont know why anyone would say its actually spot on or anything; it isnt.

Yahtzee takes a piece of "truth", spins it around, stretches it a bit, paints it black and after a while its not really the same piece anymore. It does however still resemble it a fair bit.

And its funny.
And thats the point.

Easily takes the cake for the funniest Zero Punctuation review I've watched, sadly... :(

Perhaps (some of) you people are considering it to be terribly funny just because it makes you look into a mirror. Personally I found it amusing but not the "best ZP episode ever".

I will do my part in taking most of the forumers brain away for thinking this is tragic. The cold hard reality is if DNF stays with 3DR, we are never going to see it.

Funny video btw.

Yea. Some of us have either followed or participated in this forum from the start. I joined in 2002 and probably just checked it out from time to time at least 2-3 years before that. 10 years man! Cheers for another 10 years :insomnia::D

Hmm when I am in that site, I see the video opening shot which says "click to play" and there is no button to click. I clicked on the video screen, nothing happens. Do I need to register and login to see the video ?

Re: DNF review on escapist

it's hard choosing between a game you've been waiting for forever, and the right of ownership of duke. We could all be selfish and say let duke go 3drealms but then take 2 are already getting some of what they want, turning 3drealms fans against them. I want to see duke. It the only way it seems we can have it is if 3drealms loses in court. But it won't be the same dukewhen it gets released. And I don't think 3drealms deserves their intellectual property taken from them. It's quite the conundrum.

Re: DNF review on escapist

3Drealms has made mistakes, we all agree on that, but if given the chance I think they can pull it off.

I am not stupid or blinded by the truth, it is faith that keeps going. No, it's not having faith in the company, it's about believing in the workers. The men and women who have worked on that game over the years.

Nope, no registering required. Works fine for me using Firefox 3.0.10

he says that 3DR deserves to be sued for not completing a game they were paid to complete when in reality they never saw a cent from Take2 so alot of this review is based on bullshit.

it was funny till he made fun of 3Drealms, then i got a little ticked at it.

Well.. there was that 2.5 million last July.. but 3DR didn't give out what the exact wording of that deal was, alluding that it was for an as yet unannounced title but admitted that it was "in connection with" DNF. The court will decide ultimately.

But yes, when you take into account that $20 million of 3DR's own funds were put into development, that 2.5 mil is a paltry amount by comparison (although, if I had a "paltry" 2.5 mil, I'd be set for life.. ;))

I thought it funny, regardless, which is Yahtzee's thing.

You honestly dont know what you are talking about. 3DR did take 2.5 million directly from Take 2, besides 400,000 taken from GTI for publishing rights which now rests with Take 2.

I dunno, to be honest, I don't find zeropunctuation all that funny in general, this episode included.

It got really old months ago. I prefer Angry video game nerd because he reviews all the cool old games and throws in some humour on the top, not the other way around.

You got to be joking right? He reviews bad games 99% of the time. I like to call those games weekend wasters, because thats all they did.

I also like IGSRJ on youtube, he's pretty funny.

they were talking of 12million not 2,5mil or 400,000 $

Monkey Butler 05-28-2009 09:32 AM

Re: DNF review on escapist

T2 paid $12 million for the rights to DNF. That figure is wholly separate from the $2 500 000 allegedly given to 3DR to complete the game and the $400 000 for which 3DR initially sold the rights.

Yeah It's more a coolness factor in the fact that they're old..and he does review a lot of games I rented as a kid :o

so randumb monkey cheese lol exdee

I suppose now anyone who gave two shits will change their minds because a blithering idiot who can't keep his OWN opinions straight spoke really fast and hoped he was funny in some way.

Here's a hint: He was never funny.

Yeah man, he like totally talks fast, almost as if like, you know like he has zero punctuation between his words...

This review was kind of dumb in my eyes. Usually his reviews can at least make me smile at one point, but this was just kinda "meh".

He tried to be too random in the middle.

You mean when you pressed "play"?

Sadly, this video is a bit like looking yourself in the mirror the morning after a party where you drank too much, puked all night and didn't get laid.

If you think that then you missed the joke. It's called satire.

I thought I was the only one who thought Yahtzee wasn't funny.

Majority of his reviews are basically "Look at how bad this good game is! I'm such a hard person to please, aren't I a stinker?" for 5 straight minutes.

Just isn't that amusing to me.

That's all it is, plus the added fact he has no real opinions in any of the reviews. all his stuff is written for him, which means consistency is completely out the door.

Actually, it's a great example. He employs the ironic example of DNF actually being released and being worth 12 years of development to disparage the fact that it's not released and probably wasn't going to be worth 12 years of development. They could use it as the example of satire in the OED.
