Rumor: Gearbox Reviving Duke Nukem Forever

Quote:

There may be hope yet for the ludicrously long-in-the-making Duke Nukem Forever. Sources claiming to have knowledge of the situation tell Kotaku that Duke Nukem Forever development continues at a new home, Borderlands developer Gearbox Software.

I call this bullshit, what do you think?

Re: Rumor: Borderlands Studio Reviving Duke Nukem Forever

Sounds probable to me, and would be good news.

Remember, since the 3DR development team was let go, our only option for hope around here has been seeing a 3rd party developer finish it. This is that exact scenario, and it seems like a good enough developer to me.

I like it! Always bet on Duke.

If it is true I know it's in good hands. All the Brothers In Arms games were phenomenal.

"3D Realms founder George Broussard, the man infamously in charge of Duke Nukem Forever, did not respond to requests for comment."

There is one quote that seems pretty interesting

Quote:

Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford declined to comment to Kotaku on the matter, indicating that he may be able to better clarify the situation further at this year’s Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle.
Although i am taking this article with extreme caution and i am not getting my hopes up but there is a part of me that wishes this were true.

Re: Rumor: Borderlands Studio Reviving Duke Nukem Forever

If it were Shacknews, I'd be calling BS... But Kotaku has been pretty consistant in actually providing this sort of thing. That being said, I wish these websites would leaves the rumors alone.

Take-Two Interactive still maintains publishing rights to the title, which the company confirmed to Kotaku tonight
in case you were wondering about George's silence still - there it is - he is gagged for his own good - they probably have it in the contract even.

Matthew Williams, one of the Apogee guys, posted this article on Facebook. Highly unlikely to be bullshit.

Its easy to make that connection but it doesnt mean anything. What if someone from id posted it on their facebook page? would it still be highly unlikely to be bullshit.

Yes! News! Well... rumors. But, something!

I'm not going to believe it completely yet, of course.

Gearbox taking over development? It better be 99% done.
I really hope Duke isn't involved in their hemisphere of shit.

Always bet on Duke, but at this stage any small sign of hope is crushed under the past.

George did like Borderlands, he tweeted about it a bit.

Re: Rumor: Borderlands Studio Reviving Duke Nukem Forever

I believe this to be the most likely, if not only way that DNF has continued production.

Only time will tell if this article is legitimate. They said a demo would be released this year, so if we don't see one in the next 4 months, that only means one thing:

Spoiler:

WarThrash 08-11-2010 02:19 AM

Re: Rumor: Borderlands Studio Reviving Duke Nukem Forever

Dammit. I wish they'd leave DNF alone until we have some OFFICIAL word. Stop with the rumors. I don't care how likely they are. Most of the actual official information we get on Duke Forever ends up being false, so why would they expect us to believe a simple rumor?

Just don't get your hopes up and all is well.

well, PAX is early September, so ... less than a month to go for that round of disappointment.. or total forum jizz. :D

I hope this isn't true, because it will mean that Colonial Marines is put on the backburner again.

the dudes behind PAX did say last year that they wished Duke Nukem forever would make his appearance at their expo...

Also, mods, hide this thread from Jobi!

Why the heck would it mean that? Gearbox is a studio of approximately 150 people. They can work on both.

I think this is very very promising. If I had to pick a developer to finish the project it would undoubtably have been Gearbox. Let's hope WID is just around the corner!

I would think that the sources are relible, Kotaku is a professional gaming news site that dont chase every rumor that hits them. Obviously the source is from within the gaming industry otherwise it wouldnt have been posted.

did everyone miss this part ??

One source indicated that a playable demo of Duke Nukem Forever will be available later this year.

http://kotaku.com/5609770/rumor-bord...-nukem-forever

kotaku is quite reliable they are the ones after all who leaked all the info about playstation home which we then saw was true

Perhaps I should have quoted Karebear but I was asking for his source that Gearbox is at around 170 people now.

Re: Rumor: Borderlands Studio Reviving Duke Nukem Forever

As long as the thread is open we can rampantly speculate. I might as well jump on board.

What do we know? We know the lawsuit was dropped. We know DNF is not canceled. We know the team was let go. All of this points to the fact that something, somewhere is going on to further game development.

Does that mean Gearbox is finishing the game? Perhaps. Does that mean someone else might be finishing it? Also perhaps.

What I find interesting is that after all this time IF it is being finished it is likely being done with limited input from the 3DRealms people who struggled to get it this far. Was DNF done enough that another team can fill in the gaps sufficiently without losing out on the Duke feel?

At the end of the day however Duke Nukem Forever may create the birth of a new term. What exactly do we call vaporware that pulls itself back together, gets released, and rocks?

Just because it happened then doesn't mean it is happening now.
