Crosses in Wolfenstein 3D Part II Rise of the Triad

What do the crosses in the Wolfenstein 3D Part 2 Rise of the Triad indicate? Also, why are their monks with crosses as enemies in Wolfenstein 3D Part 2 Rise of the Triad? To me, the Triad in Wolfenstein 3D Part 2 Rise of the Triad uses the cross because it stands for Rome. The Triad represents Rome. The Triad does not represent Christians. The Triad represents the old Roman Empire.

I read over the design spec. Apparently the Triad set up their operations in the monastery. They were not Christians. There is a Romen influence on them though due to the fact they wanted Armageddon to happen.

I don't know if we thought about it that hard. It was mostly designed back then to artistically "look like" Wolfenstein 3D, but not be the same.
