Blame the Internets & social media for the all-pervasiveness of April Fools jokes. You can't do anything on this day that isn't viewed with suspicion. None of the jokes stand a chance at convincing anyone they are for real. This has been the case for many years now.
The only bits that do work are when you subvert expectations and release something for real on April 1st, so everyone assumes it is a joke. The announcements for
GMail and
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon come to mind. DNF aimed for
something similar.
