I suspect you're actually hitting the area you tap to change weapons when trying to kill enemies. I did this a few times as well. Practice changing weapons and you'll see what I mean.
The only other things I can suggest are:
-Making sure your Iphone/Ipod Touch has the latest firmware.
-Sync your Iphone/Ipod with Itunes and then remove Prey from your Ipod/phone. Shut down your phone/pod, reboot and then log into Itunes again and add Prey again.
