The demo is great. Best racing game I've played. A lot better than EA's crappy NFSU POS. Simple controls, runs great, nice visuals, great sound. And finally, a game that lets me choose my refresh rate. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I loved the first one, and I love this one.

Does it work with a gamepad?

very fun demo.

the multiplayer is a bit buggy and could use work imho but other than that, solid.

Are they going to add collision detection?

Obviously a remnent of unfinished developement. Will probably get fixed in final release.

The game is a nice throwback to 'Stunts'. All speed, all fun. Acceleration, brake, steer left and right... no more controls than that. Pure simplicity, pure fun. The sense of speed is amazing. This is one race game I might just getting. And for me that's a lot.

The races are sometimes so over the top it can confuse you in what you're supposed to be doing next. On the second solo race for example, I simply cannot jump over the track after the ramp. I always smash into the wall. You know you're doing something wrong, yet it all goes by so fast that it's all over in a split second.

Controls feel great, once you unmap the god awful default settings buttons. The 'reset race' buttons are WAY to easy to accidently press, terminating everything instantly.

Sound is excellent. Engines roar adequately. Music sucks though. Highly annoying. Plus you can't turn in off in-game. You have to go into the launcher's options and do it from there. This is a basic option. It belongs in the game and I'm sure it will be in the final version.

Graphics are good, although they seem to be missing a lot of the candy. But maybe it's just my system? All I have are the colored trails. No sparks when cars crash, no smoke, no speed blur (it IS activated in the options), no lens flares from the sun... nothing.

OVerall, a great FUN race experience, even though it feels much more like a beta than a demo. Definately be worth checking it out ocne the game is released.

This game is pretty fun. Lots of over-the-top racing action.

Some things that stood out the most, though, are the post-process effects. They're absolutely superb. I was simply watching a replay, but it felt like I was watching a CG intro movie to an NFS game or something. Turn on the post-process and watch a replay to the "Gravity" platform track, for example. Witnessing your car gear up for that dual quarter-pipe transfer with all the crazy motion blur and stuff is INSANE.

Call me old-school, but damn do I love arcadey racers. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's a huge facelift to the graphics over the original one http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

funny how there's absolutely NO information on what it requires from your system...

that might be useful information...

I would at least like to see it as an option you can turn on/off when you host a game. But I don't think it will happend... :-/

Oh, sweeeet! I can't wait for April 8th!!!
I have the original one, Sunrise must be mine!

A curiosity... I put the config as I have in TM; 1024, quality options to max and 2x aa, and the game runs too slow, while TM runned fine for me.
I think its time to replace my Radeon 9800...

Ah, and I downloaded it in less than 3 minutes... I love this 4Mb DSL... http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's awesome! Although I found the steering a tad too senstive for my liking.

If you're maxing out the options, chances are the game sets the Pixel Shader level to 3. Unfortunately Radeon 9800 can't do this on hardware => extreme slowdowns. By all means, max all the other options out, but then go to custom settings and manually select PS2.0 shader level.

After that the game ran fine on my 9800Pro (2xAA / 2xAniso, all settings maxed out, PS2.0) and still looked damn great http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/love.gif

Btw. contrary to what I expected, the steering wheel worked great for this game. It allowed a lot more precise control compared to the keyboard, thus making aligning for big jumps a breeze.

I finished trying the demo, and was it pretty damn fun. I wasn't expecting it to run on my shitty system (Duron 1.2, 640mb's of ram, Geforce 440 mx), but it does, and it's pretty playable, aside from the bad load times and stuttering frame rate that occasionally occurs. The game looks pretty nice though, even on the lower settings.

This game is a nice improvement over the original. There's a much better sense of speed here then there was before, the controls feel much better and tighter (although they still do feel a little too over sensitive --- and where's that mouse steering I asked for, Damn it! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif ) , and the added air control definitely makes the game less frustrating to play.

The car paint shop feature is kinda cool to screw around with, although I'd prefer it If I could just make my own skins in a paint program and insert them into the game.

So far I've earned 920 of those point things in the single player game (there's only one track that I can't seem to get a gold metal on), enough points to build some fairly big courses in the level editor. Check out the first track that I made http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif (download the attachment, unzip it and put it in the game)...

I made a track too, and submitted it to this very helpful site:

http://sunrise.tm-exchange.com/main.aspx?action=trackshow&id=11726

Btw, I've gotten gold on all the tracks, and a number of greens (that's when you beat the author's high score).

EDIT:

btw, Kev you're map was fun, although it was almost all plain driving, not extremely interesting.

There's something I thought I should point out regarding collision detection(between cars). It's absent in the demo and AFAIK won't be in the final game either. It's just because of the nature of the game, not because it's unfinished. I don't believe there were collisions in the first game either, and if you've ever played a fast racing game online you'll understand why it just doesn't lend itself well to the gameplay. Imo, it's better without. (although, it could always be a server option like it was for NFSHP2)
