Anybody been keeping up on this? It's a TC for UT2K4 that looks to turn out pretty cool. A horror shooter with mostly melee weapons sounds pretty good to me.

Sorry if it's been posted already.

The monster variety is pretty low. Sure, there are many types of the same thing, but they do not seem so different. Essentially, there are a few dogs and lots of zombies. Maybe they've some else up their sleeves.

As for weapons, any first-person game which focuses on melee weapons has my interest at least for a little while. It's good to go face to face with your enemies.

I love the following weapons: machete, aluminium bat, pitchfork and the crowbar.

^ Considering it's a one-man team (AFAIK) it's still a damn good selection of enemies.

Too many, yes. They could have other enemies than dogs and zombies, I think. Otherwise, it looks pretty good and ambitious. I mean, even if the game is all about zombies, they could still have non-humanoid ones. Zombie bears, zombie birds, zombie gothic pig cop strippers, you name it.

The zombies seem to be floating, and the player seems short. Unless you play a short person that should the view should be corrected.

It looks atmospheric and ambitious for a mod. I wish they had a greater enemy variation, though. Instead of twenty zombies and ten dogs, they could've made something else.

That's an ambitious guy! I wonder why he didn't get help from anyone else. I guess it's the pride that comes from doing something big and demanding all by yourself.

That's one of the worst trailers I've ever seen.

I still can't wait for the game but the trailer did nothing for me and instead was insanely boring. I really hope the cinematics in the mod arn't directed like this trailer, really would spoil the mood.

Looks great but from what I saw from the trailer the gameplay needs alot of work.

It looks good graphically and possibly play wise, I like the environments, the main problem I see is the animations on the enemies. They definitely need work.

I agree, the weapons and the enviroments look amazing, much more than I would expect from a 1 man mod team.

Your right as well, the animations definatly need some work, despite that, the enemy models look really good.

Ok, I wasn't running the latest UT patch http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif

Anyway, it's got promise, but needs some work.

The zombies are pretty stupid - they'll just stand there and moan until attacked or until you get in their line of sight. Jump up on something out of their reach, and they all stop again. Wandering around or clawing at the building you're in/on would be nice.

The biggest annoyance I have with it is the zombies have about three times your reach when attacking. They can swing and hit you long after you've backed up out of range to hit them (with a melee weapon). There's no timing your blows as to back up out of their reach - if they swing at you, you get hit, seemingly regardless of where you are.

Still, the zombies look great, as does the environment. This mod should have some super spooky atmosphere once the gameplay is fixed a bit. Pretty impressive to think that one guy did absolutely everything on that mod.

Looks like he's heeding user feedback:

"I've gotten some great feedback and I've decided to make a list of changes. Some of these suggestions are from dedicated OoH players, some not, and some are my personal changes. This is based upon the demo, as that is the only thing everyone has to relate to at this point, but rest assured my goal will be to make this game much more user-friendly in the end. That being said, here is the list!

1: Disappearing HUD and settings bug
This is the worst bug yet, and I've struggled with it for a couple of months. I'll recode the entire startup and hopefully it will be fixed. This should be resolved come the final version.

2: Monster AI
I'll work on having them patrol and relentlessly chase after the player. This will make the game much harder, but being in a zombie infested place should not be a cakewalk in the first place! icon_smile.gif I actually have some older AI that DOES relentlessly pursue the player, even onto rooftops due to pathing I've placed, BUT, this sometimes results in the zombies sliding everywhere. That is why I opted for the 'If you don't see the player, stop in your tracks' AI. This will be remedied for the final.

3: Weapon tweakage
While I'm satisfied with the way the weapons function, I've gotten some suggestions to tweak them a bit and frankly, the suggestions are just good. So I'll be changing:

- Melee weapon damage effects to objects/walls
- Shotgun kickbacks will be less excessive for Slater (Not so for the other characters)
- Shotgun muzzle-flash will look smaller, and a lot less like someone firing an anti-air missile death cannon

4: Story Mode
Ive had mixed opinions on this. Personally I like the flexibility of the way the story is presented, but some people have suggested cutscenes instead. For now I'll stick with the way it is, perhaps make the text a little bigger, and add more pages instead.

5: COLLISIONS!
I understand how misleading it is, to have a level appear open-ended, yet have collisions all over the place. Some complaints are the area near the ambulance, and also at the barricade, where you can no longer walk ahead for no apparent reason. I'll try to address these issues of collision in this level and also the other levels.

NOTE: There should be some text onscreen that accompanies a blatant invisible barrier like that. For example, it should say 'I shouldn't stray much farther without Donovan...' or 'The zombies just poured through here, I shouldn't go further...' or something along the lines of that. Please understand, that because the way the story was set up, the buses HAD to come from somewhere, and I can't block off an area with a trailer, if they JUST came from that way. It would make no sense, so I thought the text would alleviate this problem, but seeing as how the text disappears when the HUD is not present, it is no ones fault but my own.

6: Zombie reach
I'll shorten the distance of these undead minions. They won't attack until you are right next to them. No longer will you be smacked while backtracking away.

7: Graphical tweaks
For some odd reason, I've noticed that certain meshes are lit in shadowed areas where they shouldn't be. This was an oversight, and the map version I have does NOT do this. The final version won't have these graphical errors.

8: Save Games
Something I'll look into. 2k4 does have a built-in save feature, but it takes a little more work to make it a real-time save feature. I will look into it, though I'm sure it will make the game much easier.

9: Sticky meshes
Certain times players may get stuck and unable to move on objects. Though I can't guarantee this will never happen again, I will do more extensive testing to make sure that most of this is gone. It's just extremely difficult to keep track of every single mesh placed in a level, and making sure that nothing gets stuck on it.

10: DIFFICULTY
The difficulty in part, is due to the lack of ammo, the long reach of the zombies, and the lack of objectives.

While I understand that it is frustrating getting torn apart by enemies that shouldn't have long reach, but do, the lack of ammo and lack of objectives won't be changed. OoH was always meant to be challenging, focusing more on conservation and avoidance (as stated in many interviews in the past) so while the ammo placements may be tweaked to easier to find areas, the ammo amount itself will not be increased. The ammo in the demo for example, is found in places that are believable to the story, for instance, the shells mostly being at the barricade of the leechers, and also the shotgun and Slater's handgun being at the bus where they fought off the zombies. This is outlined in the story. The objectives also won't change, though perhaps more onscreen cues may be present to serve as clues on what to do next. I would like to point out however, that in the story, it is full of clues as to how the enemies behave, where the ammo is, and where to go and what to do to complete the level.

I'd like to thank those that gave OoH a chance and to realise where I'm trying to go with this kind of gameplay. Those who stuck with it long enough to see underneath the grimy and difficult exterior to see the type of game it's trying to be, and to those that have offered insightful critiques, both good and also bad to make this a better experience for everybody. If you feel like I've missed something (which I probably have) please don't hesitate to post! "

No mod/game is worth this, if the first mission is shit then most likely the game is shit.
A direction or a general area would have been nice.

Meh, I heard you can't save. If you die you gotta restart from the beginning.
Don't know if this is true so don't take my word for it, perhaps you can say otherwise.

I'm just not a fan of any game/mod that make's you go find something straight away and doesn't give you some general area other than this whole map.

I personally don't regret uninstalling it.
