Looks like Starship Troopers is going to get the FPS treatment afterall http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Theres a slew of new screenshots and even a trailer at:

http://www.starshiptroopers-game.com/

It looks to be pretty intense, I'm still amazed at all the characters on the screen at one time. If they dont rush this and make sure to polish it before its release I think its going to be a half-decent game http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

They still aren't done with it? http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

This game has only been in the making for about a year or so now. You're probably thinking of the original SST FPS that was cancelled because at the time there was no way to have large amounts of actors on the screen at once. It was then scrapped and made into that shitty RTS game.

Definitaly looks cool, I loved the movie (the first one anyway). Looks kindof like a more "serious" Serious Sam. Tons of enemies, but with team play and better gameplay.

I've been keeping an eye on this one, and I think I shall conitnue to do so. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

YAY!

Screw Quake 4, gimme SST FPS!

This might just turn out to be Serious Serious Sam in a much darker environment... now if they add the GHOUL engine...

Oooh...this game looks mighty fine. But don't you think those kinds of enemies will be old since HL2 basically ripped them off?

Hudson

Starship Troopers came first http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Gryph

I know that. But it's kind of like the BulletTime thing with The Matrix and Max Payne, it was first seen in the movie but Max Payne was the first game to feature it. That's a somewhat stretched out analogy...

But I'm sure this game is going to be plenty fun, there's no such thing as killing too many bug aliens. And I really want to use the mini-thermonuclear weapons. http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was wondering if you were planning to add cooperative play to the PC (and other versions) of your upcoming Starship Troopers game? It would be a perfect addition http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Damn just heard that it's been delayed for about a year. Expect the PC version in Septermber 2005 and the X-Box version December 2005. Hope it can keep up with the rest by that time.

To be honest this game looks like another rancid license milking thingy. The screenshots look damn ugly and dated. I really hope it will be good but I highly doubt it.

The only good Starship Troopers game is the Total Conversion for Duke3D

Alien Swarm has also some nice bug hunting going on

Well the movie was fairly B-grade, so Im hoping they serious-up the game a little.

graphicguru
08-19-2005, 08:45 PM
Yes, the movie Star Ship troopers was B grade at best, compared to the book.
Now Here is a book by Robert A. Heinlin that would make a super movie and game: ' Have space suit-will travel '. and if THAT one isn't to your liking try: 'Citizen of the Galaxy, or 'Farnham's Freehold'. This guy Heinlin could REALLY write Sci-Fi, but he's been dead for quite a few years. I have been a long time fan of Heinlin's books. and have been diappointed by the movies, 'Puppet Masters' & 'SST'. I have not had the chance to check out SST game. But I will not count on it being super good, just 'Interesting for a few days' at best.

Is this game coming to the US?

Hudson
11-06-2005, 03:59 PM
I just bought it from Empires online site (I couldn't wait), I'm sure it'll be coming to the US as well.

Honestly it's one of the best Movie-To-Game conversions I have ever played. I mean it isn't any Riddick.. however it really does make you feel like you're a part of the movie action. Not to mention they used a TON of references to the flick (like "paging Privite Zim" on the intercom, etc.) and they used a shit load of footage from the flick as well.

Duoae

I haven't had chance to load it on my system yet. I'm still playing through Quake 4..... busy, busy, busy!

bittercold
11-07-2005, 12:07 AM
It's a good FPS, the only problem is that it needs some major patching.

I had a lot of fun. I haven't tried co-op yet because my roomates are being lame. They'll play Serious Sam 2, but Starship Troopers? Noooooooooooo.

It's a pretty top-heavy game, unless you have a super high end system, you're going to have to turn the detail way down to make it playable. There's a mouse lag issue, and some other stuff. Check the official forums for the details.

Also, this thread is OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tinyted.gif

Hudson
11-07-2005, 10:25 AM
It's why I bumped it instead of making a new one http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Apparently many problems are because of *GASP* shitty Creative drivers!

They've already released one patch so far and another is coming, so at least they're making a good effort in supporting the game post-release (unlike some devs)

Hey the second demo is out and for thoes of us who had certan cards, (like the Raedon 9200) we no longer have problems and can play this demo! Its not bad, its not great though.

The weapons dont have much kick to em but there are tons of bugs. lol Only problem is game really slows down when you get to fight the baby plasma bugs (allong with an eventuall big one.) kinda because they kick up shit loads of dust, leave fire everywhere after using their flamethrowers, and their plasma attack. Its gona take a toll on weaker cards, so lower everything!

I bought this game yesterday, and i will say it its worth getting becuase its an awesome Action experience, as well as a view into the movies action itself.

My main problem is that my card cant seem to render any other level But the first one for some Strange reason http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/brickwall.gif

Make sure you meet atleast the recommended recquirements before playing this game, its a bit of a resource whore

Anyone have any idea why the game runs extremely fast? I'm talking about the demo. It's like everything is on steroids.

Duoae
12-04-2006, 10:43 AM
Yeah... well the full game doesn't run fast... in fact it runs decidedly choppily slowly when there's a load of bugs.

This is probably one of the purchases that i regret buying the most.

Foxy

Tried the demo ages ago and it sucked. The controls/weapons were borked or something because I remember it being pretty horrendous.

12-04-2006, 11:06 AM
hmm, I liked it.

Damien_Azreal
12-04-2006, 02:11 PM
I liked the concept of it, but the implementation was horrid. Graphically it looked dull... the levels were stark and empty. And I was rather letdown with the weapons themselves.

I enjoy certain parts of the game and can see what it was capable of... but it sadly looks as if they just fell short of reaching it. Plus the bad optimizations and buggy (hehe :p ) state of the game upon release really killed it.

Nacho
12-04-2006, 02:31 PM
Turns out the Demo on my machine will Randomly decide on start up if it will run normally, at 2x speed, or at 8x speed.
