One More Time
So, the beginnings of a new blog.
It seems like an innocent enough activity, starting a blog. "I'll just post whenever the mood hits me", you think. Motivation will abound. You'll post everyday for a month, and enjoy every second. You'll post your thoughts. You'll post your short stories. You'll post what music you like, your favourite shows, your thoughts on news stories, your new kitten, why you think they have it wrong, your new puppy, why you think they have it right, how the neighbours to the left are nice people but the ones to the right are downright bastards, how your kitten washed your puppy and how cute it was, why Bjork's new album sucked, that you like the colour of your house, how your puppy ate the kitten and hence need to clean the carpet with heavy duty equipment, and why your puppy is now up for adoption.
Then, it'll hit you. Hard. Like a hard thing hitting another hard thing with fleshy bits on the outside.
You have no idea what to write about.
You'll shrug it off. "It's just temporary", you'll say, "I'll be back in business by tomorrow".
Tomorrow comes, no blog post.
Many days pass, no blog posts.
You get desperate for ideas - rambling in the vain hope anything usable will emerge. Monkeys peddling small bicycles, mangos running naked around palm trees in the scalding sun, revenge of the notepads, a Doctor who also happens to be a Ninja, Armadillos frolicking gaily through fields of wild tomato pansies...
Then you realise - it's just a blog. You see that entries shouldn't be written under pressure. That they should be done freely when you have the spare time. You stress less. You enjoy writing again. You lay off whatever it was the hobo gave you for inspiration.
And you'll start to blog again.
Just keep that in mind when you see that I barely ever post blog entries. ;)
