On the state of TV

Heroes has gone to the dogs. It's the cheesiest show on TV.
Prison Break got better in season 4, but it's still not as good as the first half of season 1. Gretchen is still the worst character ever and Jodi Lyn O'Keefe is horribly miscast in the role.
Terminator has become better, too. I really liked the last episode where the Cutenator/Weirdenator played detective in the local library.
I watched the 24 Redemption film and I liked it. I must say I have a thing for the pacing of 24. When they get it right, there's nothing that compares. I uphold that pacing is more important than plot integrity. You can have small plot holes and inconsistencies if you just have great pacing. Take Jericho for example. Season 1 started well, it was interesting to see the reaction to a nuclear attack, but then it turned into Days of our Post-Apocalyptic Lives with Guns. Season 2 was only made because a lot of people sent nuts to the network and the budget was slashed, but the pacing increased (since they had to go through a lot of story in just a few episodes). There were plot holes but it didn't matter because it was fun and cool and good. Anyway, bring on 24 season 7!
I am no fan of reality TV, but I must say I like to watch Top Chef and Gordon Ramsay's TV programmes. Gordon Ramsay is a great chef, but he is an even greater personality, and Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares (the original British version is best, though) are entertaining shows, mostly because of Gordon. I like Top Chef because the contestants are actually skilled at something. It's not like Big Brother were you just have a bunch of drunken party-goers doing nothing. It's like a really long nachspiel.
The BBC have made an adaption of Wallander with Kenneth Branagh in the title role. They filmed it in Ystad, the names haven't been changed and everything's in Swedish, except you have British actors and they all speak English. If you don't want to watch the Swedish TV films with subtitles, this is a great alternative. It's even good if you've watched the Swedish stuff, but I can't comment on the books as I haven't read any. Prison Break is the cheesiest show airing right now, the plot is something that even I couldn't have imagined - or well I could have, but they wouldn't have paid me to do such a shitty job with it. Everything is just too predictable, it follows the "Prison Break" route on every single detail and issue, efficiently making it rubbish. I liked first season, it was pretty good, second one was okey, third was not-too-bad, and fourth is really whatta faak -quality.

I am calling Heroes cheesy because it is just full of Daytime Drama plots and silly moments. It's like everyone's related (Sylar having the same mom as Peter, hello!) and the scene where Mrs. Petrelli came in Sylar's cell with a pretty girl and then announced that she was "food" for Sylar, the girl remained calm and even smiled. When Mrs. Petrelli walked out and down the corridor, you could hear the girl scream like "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS". The pacing isn't great, either. I just hate Heroes now. I hate it, hate it hate it.
I have some fascination with Prison Break's Heist-alike story. I like it when they have to fool as system and they used different methods to get different cards. The pacing was good, too.
I agree with you that Prison Break should have ended on episode 13 in season 1. I also think Heroes should have stopped after season 1.Posted 12-05-2008 at 10:10 PM by Bludd
