Re: The steam store thread

In countries where you can't buy Football Manager 2009 on Steam (China, Germany, Japan, Korea and Russia), the weekend deal is Universe at War instead

http://store.steampowered.com/app/10430/

EDIT EDIT EDIT

Okay, forget what I said here, the Football Manager 2009 weekend deal is only for the US/NA now it seems, under the name World Wide Soccer Manager, and EU apparently gets Universe at War instead, which makes no sense since there most likely are more football fans in EU than in the US

But whatever, SEGA have been making retarded decicions for years now.

Re: The steam store thread

Okay jesus christ, now it's back to Football Manager 2009 here, and the weekend sale for Universe at War is gone.

Re: The steam store thread

BTW, not steam, but direct2drive has zeno clash for 50% off, they list steam as the DRM system, so it should give a compatible key. may be worth getting. i picked up a copy. the sale is through "sunday" only, so it will probably expire shortly

Re: The steam store thread

Yeah, I think you get the activation key in an email from D2D after you buy it/the game has been released, and you activate it on Steam, as the game use the Steam DRM/copy protection/thing.

Maybe this thread could be renamed "Online game stores" and merged with all the other ones? That way we could talk about all our digital purchases going on and discuss all the online stores in a single thread? GoG, direct2drive, Impulse, Steam, the deals, the sales, etc, all here?

ZuljinRaynor 04-20-2009 06:27 PM

Re: The steam store thread

No, because then you will have post after post of tommy-vercetti trying to keep saying "GOG > STEAM" and bash Steam. :p

TBZ 04-22-2009 04:08 AM

Re: The steam store thread

If people could keep to posting about the various deals, and NOT compare the different forms of DRM and how it is the devil, then sure, that would be awesome.
But then it should be limited to the deals only, and any troubleshooting for games should be in their respective threads and/or the forums of the specific store.

Plants Vs Zombies is up for pre-order now. As an added bonus you get Heavy Weapon Deluxe to play now when you order. PvZ looks so amusingly silly I couldn't help myself. The free game isn't particulary great though.

Re: The steam store thread

A couple MMO's are up now. Guild Wars looks interesting and apparantly no monthly fee.

Battleforge for some reason doesn't look interesting at all, I don't know why, maybe I am too picky with RTS's.

Checked out the Stalin vs. Martians screenies, would look fun if the Martians didn't seem so cartoonishly awful. But I guess this isn't supposed to be any sort of "serious" game.

ZuljinRaynor 04-24-2009 04:06 AM

Re: The steam store thread

Guild Wars is not an MMO no matter how much some people say it is. :p

peoplessi 04-24-2009 05:27 AM

Re: The steam store thread

Battleforge is ok, bit too simple for my taste. But the whole "card" scheme works about right, not bad. Could have been more diverse, there is demo of it available, so those interested might wanna check that out.

Re: The steam store thread

Weekend deal is The Orange Box, 66% off, $9.99/9,99€.
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/469/

That's damn cheap for what you get, so if you haven't bought it yet, get it now, or get it for a friend or something.

I found it pretty interesting. And yes, no monthly fee. Also, if you plan on buying just one, I highly recommend Nightfall over the other 2.

Yeah I told my friend about this earlier about how it was on sale, and he might grab it. Though I thought he already did, but I guess he just bought Portal by itself... :o

I'll wait until a sale maybe grab the whole pack...

Phayzon 04-24-2009 05:58 PM

Re: The steam store thread

I think the whole pack retail is only $30 or $40, while on Steam its $50. I cant say for sure though.

Steam will be having a free 24 hour trial of left 4 dead on Friday. Anyone not having the game should give it a spin. Especially the haters.... :)

http://store.steampowered.com/news/2458/

they will probably also have the game on sale, so may be a good time to pick it up if you like it.

Anyone taken a chance with the game Cogs? It's a brain-buster puzzle game of sorts...thinking of getting it. Unfortunately there's no forum dedicated to it so user impressions are limited. One or two official reviews out there, but not much to go by.

Anyone?

Phayzon 05-11-2009 09:00 PM

Unreal Deal Pack, - $19.99 until June 7th!

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/683/

Package includes:

Unreal Gold
Unreal 2
UT GotY edition
UT 2004 EC edition
UT 3 Black edition

Nice score? I bought it. I don't own any of them, but I remember having a lot of fun playing the first UT when it came out. If people are still online playing that one, I'll be stoked. Everything else in this package is entirely new for me to discover. I'm actually excited :o

Kalki 05-30-2009 12:47 AM

Re: The steam store thread

Purchased it. This would be my first on the Steam Store.

I only had UT previously but I did play the heck out of the 2k4 demo, and that was what drove me to make this buy. Having the price about what they physically sell UT3 here for was a factor obviously. Preloading Unreal Gold now.

Stense 05-30-2009 06:35 AM

Re: The steam store thread

Freedom Force on Steam. A great game (and its sequel too) that well worth checking out if you want a good superhero rpg game.

lordlonelobo 05-30-2009 08:14 AM

Re: The steam store thread

That's a good price. I was just reading, UT3 "Black" is UT3 with the titan pack, and I have to say, Betrayal is an extremely fun gameplay mode, especially on smaller maps where it can be more frantic, like Hollywood Holocaust.

UT2k4 is also awesome, really good mods out there, like Killing Floor, but there are many others as well.

Lots of worthy additions this week:

Elder Scrolls Deluxe Pack (Morrowind GOTY edition/Oblivion GOTY edition)
Separate releases of the Morrowind GOTY edition & Oblivion GOTY edition

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

Riddick: Dark Athena

Ghostbusters (cheapest price for the Non-US population)

Plus a few more compilation packs were released today. I'll be getting Call of Cthulhu for sure, as Ebay seems to have stopped selling it.

Wasn't that game notoriously buggy, and typically wouldn't even play past a certain room early on in the game? Also, didn't the developer go bankrupt and disappear?

Did somebody finish up this game for its Steam release?

UT2004 maybe. Others I wouldn't know. UT2004 felt close to the original UT but playing it today, I feel it hasn't aged too well. Some of the deathmatch maps feel gigantic, completely out of proportions with the percieved size of your character and the jumps you do. Movement feels odd now.

The fast pace and iconic locations are still nice though, as well as some of the weapons. And it runs gorgeous and silky smooth with everything maxed on today's machines. The last worthy Unreal product IMO (Unreal 2 and 3 are :mryuck:).

Yes, I've read my fair share of problems with this game, but it's also well liked on this forum...figured I'd give it a shot.

It was buggy, but not that bad. It's fully playable, and there is a patch out there that improves things.
