Re: The steam store thread

Every time I have tried purchasing anything through the Steam client itself, it always denies my card for some unknown reason. When I purchase stuff from the Steam website, there are no issues at all, strange!

Re: The steam store thread

This sale is awesome, Braid, Torchlight, Trine, Stalker (and Clear Sky), and Lucasarts adventure pack for a bit under $30.

The Unreal deal pack on Steam really IS unreal: You get Unreal Gold, (which includes Return to Na-Pali) in an updated UT interface. Unreal 2, Unreal Tournament (which is still an awesome game), UT 2004 and Unreal Tournament 3. For $13.99

Re: The steam store thread

I'm only missing Unreal Gold (mostly Return to Na Pali).

Damn near the same with the Jedi Knight pack, only games I don't own are Dark Forces 2 and it's expansion. Problem is... bank account is empty. :p

Wow, that's even better than it was a few months back... I'm still trying to find my DVD Edition of UT2004 with the mapping tutorial video disc. Until then, the Steam version of UT2004 will have to do.

Re: The steam store thread

Strange. Prey is on sale today and now it is sold-out.

How the hell can a game be sold-out on Steam? :o

Damien_Azreal 12-29-2009 10:39 AM

Re: The steam store thread

They ran out of keys for the game. It sold more than they expected it to. They had the same problem with STALKER: Clear Sky.

8IronBob 12-29-2009 11:13 AM

Re: The steam store thread

That explains that...wish they'd go to a new system in place of CD Keys on Prey so that wouldn't happen again, I mean, it's Steam...if it's linked to your account, there shouldn't be a need for CD Keys, since it's a digital download to that particular user only.

That actually makes a lot of sense. :o

Re: The steam store thread

in theory the cd keys were used for online matchmaking validation. not that there has been any prey online after the first two months, but the theory is there anyway.

ZuljinRaynor 12-29-2009 12:34 PM

Re: The steam store thread

Well I doubt they wanted to reprogram Prey for Steam account tie-ins.

8IronBob 12-29-2009 12:58 PM

Re: The steam store thread

Not just Prey, but all games across the board. Just sad that none of these publishers and/or developers don't take the time to separate game installations exclusive to physical format vs. that of download format installation. That probably would've made things easier on us as game consumers, but not easier on the programming end to make it like that.

ZuljinRaynor 12-29-2009 04:40 PM

Re: The steam store thread

It's probably easier to use CD-Keys than have Steam games have a different system and then have servers authenticate both and mix around for MP games.

Jiminator 12-29-2009 05:28 PM

Re: The steam store thread

come on guys, prey is what it is, there are no changes going to be made to the game. :)
they may have tossed in a steam authentication layer, but as things go that is a much lighter change than reworking the guts of the program.

that direct x 10 only (vista only) game from the creative assembly that was the biggest turd in RTS gaming history :)

was made for xbox 360 and PC and contained bugs, unplayable controls and no AI what so ever... from the makers of the total war series :)

absolute crap, didn't buy it though, reviews were absolutely destructive... :)

Hmm...no matter why it's so cheap...thanks for the heads up. :D
Sounds like something I wouldn't even play if they gave it away for free.

Re: The steam store thread

Still haven't bought anything yet as none of the daily stuff has interested me. Just put the Unreal pack in my cart, but also realised that all the stuff I put in there before is gone, so it seems that the cart is emptied automatically after some time.

I suppose I'll have to rethink about online stuff not going out of stock. I didn't think they were still limited to a certain number of keys.

Re: The steam store thread

Still debating on whether or not I want to splurge on the id Pack, tho. Carmack and his crew put together quite a hell of a lineup over the past two decades, and I don't see any sign of them slowing down anytime soon. Of course, id's more popular in manufacturing game engine technology than in their games themselves nowadays. Although the Doom and Quake franchises may be fun. Just a shame that Valve made Half-Life, and had to take the Quake technology and turn it into a game that takes id's technology to a whole new level, literally.

ZuljinRaynor 12-30-2009 10:29 AM

Re: The steam store thread

IMO, Valve broke the Quake technology. How do you make the engine with the best movement feel of weight into such a floaty mess? Source took that to a level beyond even Epic's Unreal engine of floaty movement.

Get the id pack. On sale it's a steal.

Re: The steam store thread

IMO, id broke the feel in their next engine, id Tech 4. It was fail. UT has remained consistent.

Re: The steam store thread

id tech 4 felt fine to me.

Not that I can tell, did a quick google and it didn't show up on days 1-5, doesn't mean it will but I can always wait :).

I'm thinking about buying 2 COD: WaW for 25$ each to play in co-op with my brother...

is the co-op campaign worth the money?

Consistent at being weightless. id Tech 4 had the same feel of movement. The only thing that was odd was maybe visuals but QW and Wolf didn't look like Doom 3 or Prey at all.

Crysis & Warhead for $13.59. That's a steal....

Bwahh, I haven't heard anyone claim id Tech 4 to have similar movement to id Tech 3. Go and play Quake 3 and Quake 4 again and see(feel) for yourself.

Damien_Azreal 12-31-2009 10:17 PM

Re: The steam store thread

Not all games on the engine have the same feel, play Return to Castle Wolfenstein and then Call of Duty. ;)
Play Doom 3 and then Wolfenstein.

While I do think id Tech 4 and id Tech 3 have different feels, I think both engines feel great... but ultimately... it's the developer and how they use the engine to design their game.

I feel weight. In UE I don't.
