i dont know if this has been brought up before - if it has, i have not seen it.

but, i hope that there is a map editor (like duke3d, shadow warrior and rott had). it should be as simple as possible. and you should be able to do everything that you see done in the game. it grinds my gears when you aren't able to do even half of what you see in the game (ie timesplitters).

One of the only things they have kept from the Unreal Engine is exactly the level editor. UnrealEd is a very well known and respected level editor. All licensees get to redistribute it. I know George has mentioned that they intent to do that.

So essentially you get what 3DR have to work with ?.

If I remember correctly, it has been confirmed that we will get an mapeditor? Anyways, that will be cool. I have some ideas already, sketched out, few illustrations in 3D and such, but to get to realize them will be cool.

TimeSplitters had a really simplified "editor", but more simple you go, more you have to cut. UnrealED, Hammer, Radiant - you know one, you know them all, same basic things are there.

i agree it was very simple, which was good in a way. but it was so limited to what you can do, it kind of annoyed me. why couldnt you have trees? whats so hard about that? or fences? come on now. its like a way to keep it so that their rounds are always better. what they need is a choice: simple or complex (not like what they had - barely a difference)

Unrealed is like Build in a lot of respects. The environment is WYSIWYG, you don't build the levels, you dig them out of a solid block (you use cubes as rooms instead of walls), and the actors are pretty much self explanatory, that is there is an actor selection screen and you chose the one you need for that task and add it to the level. They act like special effectors, but there are a lot more of them.
I like the UnrealEd more than the stuff I had to work with for Half-Life. I still love the Build Engine though.

DNF Editor Discussion
Hello forum people,

Some would say that the PC version of DNF should come with a level editor in the original retail version. The question is if this is absolutely necessary or not. I know that 3DR have had their hands full for sometime now making DNF and the possibility of a level editor might be asking for too much. If they released it a few months after the game that would still be cool but what if there is just too many problems with releasing their custom unreal engine. What if it is a huge job that they haven't planed on doing? Would this bother you that you may not be able to mod DNF?

Replayability is reliant on the ability to MOD the game. For DNF to have a high enough replay value, I think it will need an editor which the players can use to make custom content.

I also like playing around with level editors.

Wonder if 3DR will release an SDK WITH DNF instead of after the release (Prey for example). It's not like releasing an SDK with the game will delay it

Sleep dep rocks man. lol

it would be beyond cool to make some DNF levels with the custom unreal engine. I actually dream of this very thing. can you just imagine how many strippers you could fit into a spaceship or in your custom Duke pad? Thats alot of cleavage.

I wonder how many entities they have, how many different strippers there are...

Hell YES! must have, I expect a short while after someone will recreate Duke Nukem 3D and it can go from there...

over 10 yrs of development in multiplayer how can it not happen

I seriously doubt it will be as customizable as DUKE3D

On a side note, for those who say something, yes i know 3d Realms has a contractual agreement to not allow Duke as a Character to be used for Mods, be it on the build engine or otherwise!

I don't see how it could cost extra time to include the editor they're already using at the moment. Same thing with Build IMO, just include what they used to make the levels.

So I vote "Heck yeah!"

Unless you are talking about Duke3D post source code release I seriously doubt it's going to be less customizable. If it was, I know I would be disappointed. I mean ued > build and uscript > con code.

Edit: Unless it was not obvious already I voted yes. Like Rider said, it's not like it's going to cause any extensive delays.

Serious indeed

I'd need to learn modding, or find someone who is willing to help, to create the Octa-Avenger though...

That is, if 3DR didn't include it by default, as my sig is kindly implying...

Not important enough to warrant any type of delay(if it was determined it would do that.)

I'd rather have the full game and the tools could always be released afterwards. Quite a few games are doing that now anyways.

I'd love to get a crack at making maps for DNF.

Well me either I would love to make maps for DNF so I can make sequels of my Duke3D maps for DNF. (Highwire 2 anyone? Nobody? Crap.)

May I ask if 3DR has made a decission about the inclusion of the level editor with the game? Or is that also a silly question?
