Post voting and "liking" is infantile and disruptive nonsense, I'm glad we've never had anything of the sort over here.
In general, I'm thankful that this place has always had a comparatively conservative approach to (visual) board functionality, avoiding the annoyance of giant signature images or attention 'soliciting' animations.

Hmm... Wonder why you would have said that. Although I am still trying to get into DX: HR, though, it's not the best, but it's still far better than DX: IW ever was.

Anywho. Time to be digging out of this snow, and heading me on a casino trip today. Should be quite interesting.

I find 'like' buttons funny. It's interesting to see who likes post 'x' or something. But post voting, I don't like that. See, any sorts of negativity or competition for popularity... I'm against of all that.

Yeah, you could say one can always say 'hey! this is most liked comment', but it's not like we're awarding top posts. I'm more interested in seeing who has the same interests that I have, that's it .

And I would agree with Zuljin, but only because it's hard for me to choose a definitive greatest game ever. But Deus Ex is on my top list ... I've never played X-Com though.

I hate how companies keep giving you less as if it's the same, and charging you a little more. Just buy a happy meal with your ever increasing price adult order and you'll find most McDonalds calculate the order to just a few cents more than the posted happy meal price plus tax - then the "Apple Dippers" don't come with the carmel dip, and you have to ask for it. They already make $5-$7 on the adult meal, I just don't understand the micro deception.

Those big coffee cans are an inch shorter and used to hold 3 lbs (48ozs), now they have air space because they keep lowering the coffee amount - then they act like it's a great deal by printing the number of cups of coffee on a 34 oz/half empty can. What happened to the price off coffee anyway? After their manipulation, prices have increased about 4X from the days of the 3lb can.

Today the mainstream news people are talking about Subway's 11" subs not being footlongs and they have recently decreased the meat amount by 25%. Funny that they are the one fast food place where they were reporting good profit on their $5 "value" deal before the shenanigans.

What mini-ripoff really upsets you?

Most of the mini-ripoffs trace back to one or more of the following: The [butt]holes at the Federal Reserve, Wall Street, and/or Washington DC.

I haven't bought a bag of Doritos in 4 going on 5 years, because the price has marched steadily up from 3.49 to 3.79 to 3.99 to 4.29 to 4.49.

My paycheck certainly hasn't increased 28.65% during that time. [Screw] Frito-Lay in the ass.

I'm not one to rant that everything should be privatized. I believe in some of the subsidies, and the Government support of effective infrastructure - one thing that really torques me and my left-lean idealism is an article about effective metropolitan mass transit removing routes to keep the busses full. They butchered the bus system in our city. It doesn't take a mathmatics expert to figure out that if you remove routes it effectively makes the system unusable. It's not like the busses were all half empty, could we please keep getting our working class, seniors, students, and disabled going where they need to be without continually modeling efficiency until it's totally broken? We know there will be some empty seats, just keep the damn routes going so more people use it, not less.

Bah, I prefer Di Bella subs over Subway, anyway. Sure the prices might be higher, but at least there you get better quality for the price. You get what you pay for when it comes these chain sub shops. Although Jimmy John's isn't half-bad, either.

It's like how a bag of crisps is barely a handful now whereas 10 or so years ago they filled the bag to full capacity.

Another thing I've noticed is cadbury's cutting the amount of chocolate in each bar while charging 10p more! scandalous!!!

Also, I love me some mexican ready meals. Years ago you used to get equal amounts of rice and chilli/mince, now it's a complete rice fest.

The only company that seem to be bucking the trend are 7up with their giant sized drinks.

Caffeine is the most popular and widely used psychoactive drug in the world. It's not healthy in typical American use like with me, but using a little on a regular basis actually has some known health benefits.

Don't let yourself get addicted, a have a couple of mates who drink about 15 cups of coffee a day and they get real crabby if they dont have one after a while and they get the shakes and real bad headaches.

Caffeine does different things to different people, some people are real sensitive to it and become easily addicted be it Coca-Cola, coffee or energy drinks, me on the other hand, Caffeine makes me sleepy for some reason.

That is a concern, mind. I've heard this is one of the most common complaints when you don't have a drink for a few days.

Doesn't make you a bad person at all. Boxing would be a great sport if boxer's didn't knock their brains into jello.

In the original contract, CBS tried to tell the original Star Trek writers that there needed to be a fight scene in every episode.
Leading to the uncontested worst TV fight scene in history:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SK0cUNMnMM

Fight scenes are exciting, and were a staple of the original cowboy/western television. TV had crime and mystery and violence and comedy wrapped into a single show.

Now we have very shocking crime TV, and they keep having to raise the bar on the level that will continue to disturb our senses.

The alternative is the comedy shows, built around snappy insults which are not actually funny like a real zinger,
and reality TV, which I have to admit, is really entertaining.

I personally like that Betty White show with the elderly pranks. Harmless - but it's just so damn cringe-worthy.

I was born in 66, so I came into Star Trek fandom a decade later in the late 70's, watching reruns, and the animated series. The origianl fans were not nerdy young males though - at the time of the original series, the fan base was women.
Check the wiki paragraph under the heading "Women"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trekkie

I remember seeing a crowd photo of one of the earliest conventions and it was nearly all women. Kinda cool when you think about the 60's and women could finally be seen as being nerdy, cerebral and intellectual.

60's did have some cool shows though. Twilight Zone in particular I've been watching for the first time recently and they are just unbelievably good - they put the last 15 years of sci fi (tv wise anyway) to absolute shame.

My 9 year old son is autistic, and not very high function. He waited until 5 to talk in simple phrases. I've been teaching him Visual Basic where he makes buttons and pictures in a window and you have to push the right answer in a game. Today I told him about my first computer and gave him a basic Hello World program as an example on one of those browser based basic sites.

First time seeing the number line programming he threw this together (was all his idea):

10 PRINT "Hello World"
20 PRINT "WHO ARE YOU?"
30 INPUT S$
40 PRINT "HI " S$
50 PRINT "WHAT DO YOU WHAT TO DO?"
60 INPUT EI$
70 PRINT "ME TOO.I WANT TO " EI$ " TOO"
80 PRINT "LET BE FRIENDS. SHALL WE?"
85 PRINT "ENTER Y OR N"
90 INPUT KJ$
100 IF KJ$ = "Y" THEN PRINT "GREAT, LETS "EI$ " TOGETHER"
110 if KJ$ = "N" THEN PRINT "THAT'S OK, GOODBYE"

I had to help him fix a couple things, and I fixed the grammer, but the concept was very easy to him, and he designed it all himself, and it ran flawlessly. Pretty proud of the little dude. He's even got a really great attitude all the time other than being rather withdrawn from his surroundings.
