Resident Evil series - the addendum

Updated 05-05-2010 at 09:01 AM by December Man (Added a note on the storyline)

I promised to comment on Resident Evil 5 as soon as it gets released on the PC. Well here I am, just finished it an hour ago. I have to say that, knowing the annoyances on the consoles, the PC version is the best one making it a very enjoyable experience.

Let me list the major complaints about the console versions:

1. Sheva's AI is dreadful. She wastes health items on you even when you're only very lightly wounded. Also, she wastes ammo like there's no tomorrow....

Parasite Eve series

The PE series are a unique breed of horror games – they mix the typical gameplay elements of survival horror(cinematic camera angles, item finding, puzzles) and RPG(experience gathering through fighting, levelling up etc.). There is absolutely no other game series, or any game for that matter, mixing those supposedly unmixible genres, AND doing this surprisingly well all at the same time. For that alone they are worth checking out.

Storywise the games are fan-fiction sequels...

The Suffering: Ties That Bind - what went wrong

Posted 09-07-2009 at 06:58 AM by December Man ((Survival)Gaming and Rants)
Updated 09-07-2009 at 01:25 PM by December Man

Note: Wow, this blog shifted from "Gaming and Rants" to "Survival Horror - Read All About It!".

I have utmost respect towards the first Suffering game. Why, you might ask. Thanks to it, I became fascinated with all things horror. Yes, it was The Suffering that introduced me not only to horror video games, but also movies and books.

Even though it seems to be a pretty standard gory action horror, the story and setting is what make it a very...

Updated 08-30-2009 at 09:41 AM by December Man

I was thinking about different horror game subgenres that started appearing after 2004. Previously, there were only survival horrors and other games with horror themes.

Nowadays there are three ways of presenting horror to players.

1. Action horror. Prime examples: The Suffering series, Clive Barker's Undying(probably the only game of this subgenre prior to 2004; correct me if I'm wrong).

The game is focused on action more than anything else; lacks(a...

Is the Silent Hill series any good?

Posted 08-24-2009 at 04:10 PM by December Man ((Survival)Gaming and Rants)
Updated 08-29-2009 at 05:42 PM by December Man (Added more stuff)

People that read my blog already know my opinion. However I decided to go with the flow and create a series of sorts which shortly summarize each grand survival horror franchise.

In case someone somehow doesn't know my opinion: I love Silent Hill. The atmosphere, music, complex and often philosophical story full of metaphors and, of course, the scare factor. But, as we all know, nothing is perfect. Especially SH which deteriorated slowly over the years. Let's cut to the chase and...
