DXHR took me around 25 hours to beat.

As for back on Ford; Fugitive, great movie. I love it. As for Ford in Blade Runner. The acting never felt that good to me. It's much better than those voice over monologues though. And I believe Ford hates those and wasn't all that interested in doing the voiceovers.

I don't use the prod. I just sneak around and if I have to take someone out, it's the crowbar. I occasionally use the silent pistol.

And I would prefer combat that requires actual skill with some game dictation and not is totally dictated by a fake skill set by the game (it doesn't work well with guns). If gun skill only affected recoil (somewhat) and reloading speeds, and not gun spread (which makes zero sense) it would be better. I'm not saying DXHR does it right, since it doesn't (lacks any sort of gun modification skill. Those augs? I noticed no difference with them. I didn't run and gun though until the end of the game because I said there is no reason for stealth from an RP standpoint for myself).

Thankfully I've upgraded my Assault Rifle in DX1 to the point where I can mostly point and watch people die.

Much more enjoyable now, though still annoying at times.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree about Ford's acting in Blade Runner. Me, I thought it was vintage Ford, especially the part when he uses his "geek" voice after finding the first female replicant. Cracks me up every time. Seen The Fugitive? That's quality Ford acting right there. I agree that Blade Runner is slow at times, but some of the movies I like the most are slow-burners. I think we can both agree that Blade Runner was ahead of its time. The epitome of slow-burner movies: Valhalla Rising. See it if you get the chance. Some brutally savage fighting in that movie.

Project 2027 has been released. I won't be getting it for awhile, but I've read that there's no voice acting, plenty of poor English translation - and it's only 290MB large. They're working on patches to fix translation issues, but yeah...

BTW, how long was your HR playthrough? I've just gotten to Shanghai and I'm 22 hours in.

If you want to make stealth reasonably challenging in Deus Ex, don't use the prod. During my pacifist run I used the baton for 90% of my knockouts, which led to a lot of quickloading. The baton almost seems broken at times, though. Sometimes I get one-hit knockouts, other times it take two hits, sometimes it just doesn't work at all. The rest was the occasional crossbow tranq, pepper spray for multi enemies in close proximity, and the rare prod when I had to be quick. But yeah, the fact that enemies and cameras don't react to downed allies makes it laughably easy at times. Part of the game's charm. :p

I'm about 20 hours in Human Revolution, and I think I'd rather have the combat from Deus Ex, tbh. More skill is required the way I see it. In HR, as long as your mouse-aiming is accurate, and you have a good feel for the controls, you can clear out areas pretty easily. Example: I killed Barrett on my second try on the hardest difficulty without using grenades.

And Blade Runner is boring. For one, Harrison Ford is really bad in it, and the monologues are terrible. I'm not saying it's a bad movie. I'm saying it is good but boring. There are many things about it that are great, and make it great, but it is flawed. I've seen it a few times. The end monologue from Roy is great though. But in the end it is too long for what it does and it's really like nothing happens in it. I know it's not an action movie, but it's not all that exciting in other ways either.

I didn't get HDTP because I didn't want a half finished one. And yeah, it i will be finished "soon" as they get animations done. No one knows for certain.

I got Nameless Mod installed but I have to get the HUD scaler to work for it.

I'll keep an eye out on 2027.

FPS combat in RPGs is an inherently broken concept. Certain aspects of gunplay being tied to skill is annoying. The whole, wait ten minutes for the crosshair to get small (while standing still) is the biggest problem. It is a really hard system to find a balance for.

But my complaints also mean the AI. The AI runs around headless so you end up wasting more ammo half the time. Not to mention when you have teammate AI and enemy AI in one area, it's just a mess. You're better off not shooting unless you wanna hit a teammate. It also looks ridiculous.

Oh, and stealth is way too easy. I want to play a hybrid character in most my games, and Human Revolution did that better though the way they give XP in that game is really broken.

And yeah, J.C. is such an idiot. :P

Blade Runner boring? Blasphemy! If you've only seen it once, then I could see it being somewhat boring. Watch it a few more times (the different versions if you can) and you won't see it as boring anymore.

Fully agree on the soundtrack. DX wouldn't have been as memorable for me if the soundtrack had been generic.

Yeah, New Vision was great. Did you also install HDTP-Release 1? The Gunther model is absolutely beautiful. Looks like the HDTP project might soon be completed after 7+ years. They're on the "home stretch".

If you haven't played The Nameless Mod, I HIGHLY recommend you do. You'll see a bigger preview of what's been done with HDTP, and it's just really well done...and hilarious!

Also, keep an eye on Project 2027 (another DX mod) if you don't know about it already.

I've never understood complaints about the combat. Based on RPG standards of old (terrible at all skills until you invest points in them), it's exactly how it's supposed to be. A few death animations would've been nice, but that's just being picky. Perhaps, for me, it's because DX (the start of it) is very much like the Thief games that I didn't have a problem with it. You're weak, and can't defend yourself well, so you stand a better chance of surviving by just staying out of everyone's way. But unlike the Thief games, you get stronger as the game progresses, so it became easier for me.

I hadn't played the original DX in years. When I was younger, yeah the story blew me away, even though I didn't understand all of it. This time around, its lost a bit of its shine, but it's still great and eerily relevant to present times. I found it funny how JC is pretty much the idiot of the story as everyone he talks to seems to know more about the situation than he does.

To be honest, my hate for Deus Ex was never hate. I do believe it's far from being the best game ever because it has too many flaws compared to X-Com, for example, but it is a great game. Though the non-game aspects are much better than the game aspects. The soundtrack is great.

The truth also is, now I really got into the world behind it. Watching Blade Runner once can do that. Now, I thought Blade Runner was boring as hell, but the world and atmosphere was great. It is why I even bought DXHR at an impulse.

The same thing happened to me with other games. After playing Dragon Age: Origins, I fell in love with the old Infinity Engine games.

Oh, and New Vision helped make Deus Ex actually pretty to look at. :p

Nah. Just after playing DXHR, I ended up watching some Deus Ex videos on Youtube and I just love JC's quotes. I had to experience experience them myself.

IW shortcomings are small maps and unified ammo and some of the skill stuff being dumb. DX's shortcomings are parts of combat, bland start, whole story given away at the start, black and white story, etc. Both had bad voice acting and animations.

IW shortcomings should be blamed on the developers, but the game shouldn't suffer because of their shortcomings. I blame Bioware for making Dragon Age II garbage, not the game itself. It sucks as a Dragon Age game, and on it's own it might be okay? I don't think that is the case with DA2 since the game itself has bigger flaws than DXIW. DXIW on it's own is a great game.
