Tiles range from 3584 to 3840 are reserved to the user art textures (for user maps). I did them because they are used in Duke in DC pack. Somebody mentioned that they are should not be included in HRP because of possible incompatibility problems with another missions.
4495 slippery sign was modelled by somebody, I just improved skin. Just in case you do not have the model, I attach it with the message.
The new skin you made for tile 4495 looks better then the old one. But I think it looks a little to plain, and bright for that matter. So I edited it a bit.

The only problem is though, the file size went from 16kb to 107kb, so I'm not sure if this one would be worth using. What do you think?

Duke D.C. - HRP Edition
Well, itīs missing the border from Piterplusīs version, and its yellow color should be as bright as his version. Besides that, itīs done well.

BTW speaking of Duke D.C. addon usage with the HRP: I have made a file out of Piterplusīs few extra textures (and skybox) you can just add to the HRP loading procedure. Result: HRP support in Duke D.C. without having to edit the original HRP zipfile!
For download and info about how to use this stuff, follow my signature link. Oh, and if there are any other highres textures for DC out there that arenīt listed in the included readme, please notify me!

I didn't notice any border in the one that Piterplus posted, but I added one in anyway. I also added a bevel around the "Slippery Floor" part. As for the brightness I think it looks fine because it matches the brightness of the original sprite. Here's the new version...

That because I posted zip file with model and skin provided by author. Mine skin is resided on my site ( http://members.lycos.co.uk/piterplus...5_slipsign.png ). Now I see that yours looks pretty much like it now - that just shows that we are think in same way .

Edit: Now as I know about modelling a litttle better, it is obvioust that this model's skinning was not optimised. Half of the skin is plain waste.

Slipsign
Well, especially the mirrored part is quite unnecessary. Just the border without the writings on it would absolute suffice on the right side.

However... I am currently doing maphacks for all the maps in the DukeDC addon. When Iīm done, most of the stuff will be aligned correctly when using the HRP with this addon.

Override or update?
I see that the DukeDC HRP works quite well while overriding specific parts of the original HRP. Now Iīm thinking about a change of concept: Should my Update Pack just override the older textures/models, or do you still want to integrate the contents to your HRP file? (Normally, this is stuff for a poll, but I cannot start one in the middle of a thread.)

Advantages/disadvantages of override solution:

+ no changes of original HRP necessary (just load override after HRP)
+ maphacks could be put into HRP update override (no need to load a third zipfile)
- increased filesize (zipfile used directly, no compression)
- def files can no longer be used directly for HRP integration (changed file paths)

The filesize "problem" (which is more about minimizing download time) could be solved by double-zipping: The uncompressed zip would be put into a compressed one. So basically, you would have to unzip that downloaded file to your eDuke32/jfDuke3D directory and add another parameter afterwards. Easy enough.

OK, I have uploaded the update again. Perhaps it cannot be opened by WinRAR because I was using FilZip for adding the last stuff (instead of WinRAR). This version should be OK - besides, I have added the new skin for 908_tree (by Piterplus).

My other question:

Sorry for so many questions, I want this to run flawlessly....

FAQ
Quote:
oak man said:

What the heck? This is just impossible, because I did not mess around with anything concerning HUD weapons. What I include is just what has changed, everything else just works as it did before. The only explanation for this issue is that you made something wrong when integrating Update Pack contents into the HRP. You must have vanilla 2005-11-01 release, then take the Update Pack, unzip contents somewhere and then put *EVERYTHING* within that unzipped folder (NOT the folder itself!) into the HRP zipfile!

Your HRP zipfile structure still has to be
- "highres" folder
- "duke3d.def"
- "duke3d_hrp.def"

Quote:

- Will you release another update containig new textures and weapon skins again?
All these are in the original HRP and I didnīt leave them out or anything (see above).

Quote:

- Should we delete our older updates?

As I wrote a thousand times before, these updates are not cumulative, i.e. every new Update Pack version replaces its predecessor *COMPLETELY*. Itīs always good to have a backup of original HRP somewhere and only update that one, but itīs up to you.

If I had the bandwidth, I would just load up the whole updated HRP... but itīs not *that* difficult to do the way it is now. Keep trying.

Re: FAQ
If you are using the gore pack, you do that on your own risk. I had to modify the gore pack heavily to get it to work with usual HRP stuff properly. It should be implemented into next official HRP release so that people stop complaining about it.

I emphasize I have not changed anything within the HRP folder structure and never will do so. Any version of the Update Pack should work fine. If it does not, itīs usually due to some mistake the user made. And there should be no problem with integrating more than 1 update into the HRP, either.

And there will be a new version as I see fit, i.e. when enough new models, textures and stuff have been released.

Reminder
Oh, BTW...

@Parkar:
Please tell me you are looking at the HRP Update Pack and GUARANTEE me that everything I have found will DEFINITELY be in the next HRP release - and I *MEAN* everything!

Simple reason for this reminder is that the effort reviewing all the stuff I have changed so far in a new HRP would be quite considerable. Itīs not only stuff found here in the forum, there are many items not included in the HRP yet but available on texture artists sites, progressive JPEGs corrected and so on. My detailed change log will help you with going through all the items - thatīs why I made it, anyway.

Oh yeah, and a new HRP release around March would be nice... because the Update Pack starts growing beyond acceptable measures (currently, it already takes more than 1 hr to upload it... upload speed is limited to 4 KB/s at Lycos, as it seems).

Re: Reminder
Unfortunatly I can't garantee everything will be included. Only thing I can garantee is that I will take a look at all the stuff and make sure I don't miss anything. They way I will work this out is getting the pack when I start prepering a new release and merge in any stuff I am missing or that is wrong in my version over from your pack. I'll let you know when this happens.

As for new HRP versions it all depends on when I have the time needed to make a new version. It usualy takes several hours a day for over a week to prepare a new release. Right now a April release looks more likely then March but I don't plan my life at a very detailed level so it may be sooner or later. I also think we should have reached some kind of milestone before any new version(new jfduke, all <insert stuff> done, ep # completly done, etc).

Re: Reminder
sprites that rotated to face the player didn't need to be facing in any direction, now that we have full 3d models some of thows are facing in odd directions or pretruding threw walls, the map hacks simply rotate them to face in a more apropriat direction.
theres also switch off models form some sprites like hidden switches so they stay hidden.

Itīs even simpler than that: Load HRP without the maphacks, and youīll see VERY soon what they are good for... just imagine toilets that are facing into the wall instead of towards the player, shotguns partially clipping into nearby walls and so on...

Concerning HRP Update Pack: Iīm basically waiting for the Mighty Foot model to be finished. Otherwise, more than enough stuff has been gathered.
Additionally, a slight update to the maphacks will be made - concerning E3L4 and E3L5 stuff (helicopter models, some ammo alignments).

I guess itīs not allowed to link from another account to Lycos just for download purposes (although you are re-directed anywhay when you want to download something from there). Grand. Absolutely grand.

Well, right now, since the mirror is down as well, thereīs no way to download the update pack any more. I am in urgent need of some really good webspace, at least 50 MB or more.

As I mentioned before, the offline state is due to several reasons, the most important one being Lycos having terminated my account.

Soon, there will be new versions of all my releases on the update site, and tpz will probably provide new mirrors as well (his old ones also got terminated, but that was planned). Hopefully, from now on, the downloads will be provided on a more permanent basis.

Just wait a bit longer... it will pay off.
