Very cool interview. You know, it would be awesome if you guys brought Rise of the Triad back. I don't know if it would fit well with today's game climate (whatever that means...) but I really loved everything about that game. Best weapons in a game EVER.

Load both pages at the same time.

Also, in regards to the DNF remarks George has at the end of this, please use the thread in the DNF forum for that. Thanks.

It looks like that the PT is identical to the PT of the old Prey minus the fully destructable enviroments. But maybe we can see that in some mod(s) ?

Adding fully destructable environments would require more than just modding the existing code, imo someone has to rewrite big parts to make it possible.

There's some really great news:

"We added a light-interaction shader system that allows us to do tons of cool effects." Put on your jargon caps for a moment and think glossier surfaces; parallax mapping for superlumpy organic surfaces; refraction for ray-traced effects; softer, more diffuse skin and lustrous hair; and several "membrane" enhancements for displaying thin, transparent surfaces more realistically. "We've also added postprocessing shaders that give us things such as contrast, saturation, tint, blur, and light bloom,"

"It's allowed us to use compressed normal maps even at high settings that look as good as the uncompressed normal maps," says McArthur. "Because of this, our medium-quality settings will look like Doom 3's high-quality textures, and our high-quality normal maps can have twice the resolution. It's been a huge gain for us."

It seems they're pushing the visual bar while keeping the same (or similar) minimum requirements,

Just got an email from the guy at 1up who is writing all this:

BTW - the screens were a second behind the story. I saw someone had read the story before they had gone live. The new screens are now up. Sorry for the confusion.

Re: 1up.com\'s Week of Prey Coverage
I remember back in 2002 id showing off their physics engine and how it could physically simulate fast moving objects like bullets. I was rather disappointed they didn't use it in the final game, so I'm glad to see Prey bringing that back.

Also exciting to hear about the new interaction shader system (which I assume is one of the reasons the system requirements have been bumped up to a DX9-level card minimum).

Those are the machines(like the matrix' squiddies) and I assume they're bigger. The creatures have green glowing eyes. Both share design similarities with octabrains.

Is that a flamethrower? Both seem like multiprey to me.

I'm afraid to stare too closely at this wall texture here.

Leech-gun

The movie pwnz, the acid luminates a bit when splatterd on enemies and walls 'n stuff. And it looks so high-details because the textures are so high-res
DOOM 3 and Quake 4 are butt-ugly compared to Prey

Developer interview part #1: singleplayer.
But what's interesting is that there is a lot of multiplayer in the video as well, as much as singleplayer. I saw the place where the multiprey screenshot comes from from wednesday
So I assume we'll get more singleplayer footage tomorrow in the multiplayer video

I didn't like this: "if you do good you're going to get less ammo".

There was a very cool part where you see an empty room, and as soon as you enter it the room spawns full of decals Invisible teleports?

I'll read the text later. It's enqueued on my "to read" list just like all other articles so far because I'm reading other things at the moment

I liked how the interviewer said: "Hey how do you adress the people that say: Look! Doom 3 engined corridor in space shooter #6"

Judging from the video, the combat lacked depth. While the rest of the features make up for it, and even more, I think combat is a very important aspect of a game together with the atmosphere. There was a part in slowmotion but I'm very confident it was to show off the bullet system and not a feature in th game. I hardly heard what they were saying because I'm on my old computer right now, and the maximum volume is REALLY silent.

This latest update hardly has anything about the character, most of it is about game features. Although its a good update, I still wanted to read more about how character development is implemented in the game.
Gotta wait some more.

By the way, the spirit world you go to when you die, is it ike what they did in Soul Reaver?

Not quite...
In soul Reaver you were in some kind of alternative dimension...

In Prey you get tranfered to a whole new location, so it's different...
However, the regular Spirit-Walk feature could be compared with Soul Reaver's other dimension... Just, instead of fighting spirits instead of enemies, in Prey, you still fight against enemies, just in spirit-form...
