THIS GAME DOESN'T LOOK LIKE DOOM3!!!!
GO HELL NAYSAYERS!!!

This game looks like an absolute kickass game for what i've seen so far. there are indeed much brighter environments in the game as in a normal doom3 game - and the portals are absolutly amazing. it's prey like i've became to love in 1998...
hands up again for 3dr and hh!

Weeeeee! i can't wait

The problem with the D3 comparison is that Doom3 gave dark sci-fi indoor shooters a bad name.
Prey will prove that dark sci-fi shooters can be innovative and fun

And what's even better is that I believe George said the environments are even brighter than what can be seen in the trailers.

Actually parts of the trailer did have a little doom 3 nostalgia in them. I say nostalgia b/c I beat the game and never picked it up again. Linear gameplay is no fun :\. That is understandable though, seeing as how its made w/ the doom 3 engines. I wonder if the battle lord was put into prey just to appease Cerebus_e.

Well, it's gonna take some time mang. Last I talked wiff my friend, I believe he was headed home from E3, and from that point he actually needs to get the video onto his computer.

I'll keep everyone updated as best I can on it.

yes, the ETA is very long it seems

but Boinky, what does the doom 3 engine have to do with linearity? I can understand why you want a battlelord in prey, everyone wants that, but I don't understand how each game on the doom 3 engine is automatically linear according to you?

Indeed a very impressive video!
Thank god the flashlight is no gameplay element here
Doom3 engine in it's full glory.
With Quake4, EnemyTerritory:Quake Wars and Prey being made, I am fully convinced that the Doom3 engine is capable of good looking nonpitchblack areas!
I am very excited about the story behind the shooting. If it will be as cool and dramatic as MaxPaynes or even better??

Just a quick note on the video:

It was 100% gameplay. in other words, this game is like Half-Life, in that you are always playing the game from the main characters perspective, and there are no cut-scenes. I've seen a lot of people mistakenly think that the opening bar seen is like a cut-scene, but this is all playable. In the real game, for example, you'll be able to interact with the video game machines, the jukebox, characters (there will be other chars in this final game in the bar), and explore the area before the abduction event starts.

And from the bar scene the game doesn't immediately jump to the scene with the jumbo jet being abducted -- this was just us jumping around randomly in the demo.

Sounds cool...
But i suggest it won't be as interactive as DNF... right..?!

And about the 'playing with stuff before getting abducted' thing, i can already imageine that 'just' when i'm about to get a highscore in a pinball game... the UFO will destroy the whole place, and abduct the pinball machine...

"NOOO, That was my highest score ever..."

Oh, one more thing -- this wasn't a video, even though me and everyone else refers to it as one! It was a demo playback script running on top of the engine in real-time. So the game was running as if being played, but it was the demo script doing the playing.

It was only on day two that we realized that a lot of people watching it thought it was a video, so we started to announce that it was a real-time demo script.

it's a demo, for example in duke3d, when you start the game, a demo is running too, not a video.
it's the same in prey, the demo script was running, just like in duke3d when you start the game (you don't play, the """computer""" plays, and follows a scripted traject)

No cut-scenes, you ask? Well, because we want to keep the player immersed in the game itself, with all events happening from the player's perspective. In our opinion, it undermines the immersion factor if the camera suddenly leaves the player's eyes and shows the scene from a third-person perspective.

I think the Half-Life games have shown that third-person cut-scenes are simply unnecessary, as long as the in-game scripted events are well done.

It looks like it's actual ingame with a good bink format movie.

The 12 min gameplay movie in bink needs to be about 400-500 MB to actually look ingame enough.

edit: typo

Like it can't/won't when it's encoded with divx. Sure Bink is a nice codec, but I believe it's main purpose is that it can be easily integrated into a game. So, after buying a license (wheren't they going to use it for DNF?) for the codec, it seems an obvious choice to me, to also use it for releasing video material on the internet, like 3DR did with the 2001 DNF trailer.

I was surprised the bar scene wasn't an intro video. In game you say? Now I'm even more impressed Sounds like fun with all the interactive bits. Looking forward to the video.

The advantage of the bink format is that the codec and the player are shipped with the video, whence you don't need anything installed on you computer, the downside is the increase in size.
I prefer avi or wmv. wmv because it is smaller then most other formats and still give a good quality/size ratio. imo that is.

I prefer 2-3 min but in high quality exemple wmv-HD.
